Wolves Enter the Estuary 2026-08-24 by John Marinakis CONTRIBUTOR | 11 Comments | Wolves in the Throne Room will release their eighth studio album, Estuary, on October 23 through Relapse Records.
The six-track record follows 2021's Primordial Arcana and the 2023 EP Crypt of Celestial Knowledge. It presents a post-apocalyptic narrative set one thousand years after civilization's collapse, with survivors wandering through haunted ruins populated by mutant creatures and supernatural forces.
According to vocalist and guitarist Nathan Weaver, the album imagines estuaries as powerful locations where magic has acquired physical form and benevolent and hostile spirits roam a wilderness that has reclaimed the cities.
The band have also released the album's first single, Ghosts Among the Obelisks. Its Weaver-directed video follows a warrior who abandons the ruins of the old world in search of a mountain sanctuary, encountering spirits while crossing a landscape of decaying concrete and rusted metal.
Estuary was produced by Wolves in the Throne Room and features touring bassist Galen Baudhuin. Most of the album was recorded at the band's Owl Lodge studio in Olympia, Washington, with drums tracked by Nicholas Wilbur at The Unknown in Anacortes.
