Converge's 2nd New Song and LP

2026-04-04 by Lelle | 31 Comments
Converge have just announced their second full-length album release of 2026, titled "Hum of Hurt" and due out June 5, following closely in the footsteps of their previous 2026 release "Love Is Not Enough". The title track's music video can be streamed below.

Though recorded during the same sessions as "Love Is Not Enough", Hum of Hurt is not a sequel. “When we came together to write, we ended up with a wealth of material,” the band's vocalist Jacob Bannon explains. “As work progressed we realized we had created two separate albums, and treated them as such.”

“The unifying musical idea early on was, ‘Let’s make a noise rock album.’ But we never really did. The first one wasn’t. This one touches on that spirit, but it’s much more dynamic than that descriptor. To me, it leans more into being an emotional hardcore album, while Love Is Not Enough feels more metal leaning album. In the end, we simply gave creative birth to another Converge record with its own unique identity and character.”

Tracklist
1. Slip the Noose
2. Doom in Bloom
3. It Only Gets Worse
4. Detonator
5. I Won't Let You Go
6. It's Not Up To Us
7. Dream Debris
8. It Used to Matter
9. Hum of Hurt
10. Nothing is Over

Good song. Didn't quite grab me as much as the stuff from the last album but I'll never turn down bonus Converge. Excited for another album to drop.

“The boys are treating us well, eh?”
it’s not even thanksgiving but we’re fucking feasting. I absolutely called them dropping another LP this year but didn’t think it would actually happen.

While I’m manifesting Converge shit… how about an EP to end the year with the rest of the songs they wrote?

And this version of I Won’t Let You Go is 3ish seconds shorter than the Cyberpunk version… I’m wondering if they re-recorded it or changed it in some other way… I’m probably overthinking it, maybe the last few seconds of feedback got cut or something.

“To me, it leans more into being an emotional hardcore album, while Love Is Not Enough feels more metal leaning”
As a huge fan of their earlier more screamo inspired tracks like Dead and Farewell Note to This City, describing it like this has me insanely excited. Amon Amok and Gilded Cage lean really close to just being straight up sludge metal so it doesnt surprise me to find out they’re going in a completely different direction.

Also, just based off these song titles, this sounds like it’s gonna be even more bleak than Love Is Not Enough. “It Only Gets Worse”… jesus

Being very new to this band, I actually enjoyed this single more than most of Love is Not Enough. Looking forward to hearing the whole album.

tbh the lamest part of that is that this isn’t even particularly inaccessible by their standards, you just reveal your own ignorance

Very interesting. Im wondering what they’re switching up, and why. I think it’s an amazing track tbh. Nothing out of the ordinary for them but still really damn good. I’m literally never gonna forget playing Cyberpunk at launch and immediately going to the metal station, and after some Silverhand cutscene I heard Jacob’s yell and I was just so shocked that my favorite band managed to slip one by me and get featured in one of the biggest video games ever.

Ritual might seriously be the best metal radio station I’ve ever heard in a game.

^Wildcard, band said the following on IWLYG:

“When we recorded the first version, Ben tracked drums in California and we assembled it here,” Bannon explains. “It was good, but we knew we could do better. This version has everything the previous one was missing. It now feels right.”

I heard it live, I don’t remember it too well but I don’t think so… lyrically MAYBE there’s something to tie it together but I remember enough of it to know that they sound nothing alike.

Definitely my most anticipated album rn, which is saying alot considering how fucking stoked I am for new Gorguts

This song goes unfathomably hard. I am more partial to this slight melodic / AWLWLB tinged style they do. Lot of highlights here - the chorus guitar riff is super catchy, Ben's drums near the end are nuts, and Bannon sounds insane.

Thoroughly pumped for this.
