Brad Arnold Passes Away at 47

2026-02-07 by Kip | 21 Comments
It has been reported that 3 Doors Down founding member and lead singer Brad Arnold has passed away at the age of 47.

News of Arnold's death was confirmed by the band via social media on Saturday. This comes just 9 months after the singer announced he had been diagnosed with Stage IV clear renal cell carcinoma in May of last year, leading the band to cancel their remaining tour dates for the rest of 2025. Despite his diagnosis, Arnold maintained a positive attitude. He passed peacefully in his sleep surrounded by family.

Brad Arnold cofounded 3 Doors Down in his hometown of Escatawpa, Mississippi in 1996, writing the band's 2000 breakout single "Kryptonite" when he was 15 years old. The band's multiple platinum selling debut album The Better Life catapulted the band into mainstream success, with "Kryptonite" becoming one of the most endearing and recognizable rock songs of the 2000's. 3 Doors Down would go on to release 5 more albums, featuring numerous hit singles including "When I'm Gone", "Here Without You" and "It's Not My Time."

Damn man, way too young. Cancer is the worst, but this guy was so positive despite his situation. RIP

RIP, 47 is just horrifically young. This band and his voice were huge for me as a kid.

Their music may have become shitty butt rock as years went on but those first two albums are GOATED for sure in terms of early 2000’s rock and Brad seemed like a genuine dude who always kept it real. RIP

I know people thumbed their noses at this band but I always had a soft spot for Kryptonite. Very catchy song. Never really checked them out besides that but maybe I will now. RIP to him.

That's sad. I know they're the butt of a lot of jokes because they're generic alt-rock and touted religion for a while, but I've appreciated them more often than not. Was a big fan of their earliest stuff and even some of their mid career stuff. Self titled was the last one I thought was decent, everything after that sucked. Still, lots of nostalgia and appreciation wrapped up in their music. RIP.

I am going to stop being an asshole for once and say RIP. When I’m Gone was the first song I heard by them and I remember liking a boy in first grade who liked it.

I’d say Kryptonite and Lifehouse’s Hanging By a Moment were two of the first songs I tried to learn all the lyrics to (wasn’t allowed to use the computer back then obviously so I had to just listen to them on Y101)

Sad to see him go but at least his family members were there for him.
