okay so the song is fine, has some pretty cool riffs. the length wasn't that much of an issue, felt pretty straightforward to me. only one moment had me pining for the fast forward button. kirk's main solo was pretty good too. song is just pretty good i guess. nothing on the album so far has struck me as amazing, but my hopes are definitely higher for this one than they were this time around for hardwired.

Metallica took the intro and chorus of Spit Out The Bone and mixed it with the verse and solo of Atlas Rise.

Hardwired honestly had some fun riffs but metallica haven't pumped consistently great music out in nearly 30 years. Lulu had some cool ideas, but it's kinda clear that these guys ran out of creative juice decades ago. This album seems like full on autopilot. These guys take a million years between albums just to push full-on mid music. Compare that to Iron Maiden who still kinda take their time but put out stuff that's worthy of their legacy

they could've at least done the decent thing and not released so many shit tracks before the album even dropped, that way i could've just been mildly disappointed (my hopes weren't very high in the first place) when i heard the whole thing, instead of wondering to myself "hmm maybe metallica will put out a good song again" and being let down every single time.

they have been on autopilot/phoning it in for years. hardwired had a few very solid tracks (the title track, moth into flame, spit out the bone were all good - the rest of the album was pretty mediocre and some of it was utter shit). the tracks mentioned have held up though. i actually quite enjoyed 'death magnetic', far and away the best thing they've done in the last 20 years. even the B-sides LP was very good. then again, i always thought that the hatred that 'load' got was a bit overblown and that album (reload not so much) has actually aged a lot better than most shit.

idk how to describe it but there's a distinct boomer quality to these songs that not even hardwired had

death magnetic and hardwired lift a ton from metallica's own classic material, but these new songs have an almost pre-metallica late 70s/early 80s nwobhm type feel... and i don't think that style translates very well with such modern production

i think the nwobhm feel is extremely strong in these new songs and i think there's some promise in the sound. it feels like metallica, in theory, tried to go back to their roots and listen to the stuff that first influenced them when they were young. it's a shame none of these songs have really clicked beyond being "just fine" but i appreciate it more than DM or HW... because there at least feels like a sense of energy behind these songs.

almost everything on DM or HW...felt like it was being penned at gunpoint, and metallica most of the time really wanted the gunman to pull the trigger. even if these songs are bland, i can sense a genuine eagerness behind these songs that havent been there in a while.

yeah like in a universe where metallica made an album in like 1981/before kill em all this is what the songs would sound like
