hey overhyped band makes another bland synthpop song

^probably the closest you've ever come to a coherent take on anything
too bad it had to be a godawful one. pos for the video's Seventh Seal theme
| |
Is that THE ajcollins

Here to subvert expectations as much as possible
| |
what
| |
I expect this to go all the way down, as Ultra did back in the day.
| |
I like this song. Video is nice too. Idk, solid
| |
This is very nice.

"hey overhyped band makes another bland synthpop song"
actual braindead take
| |
--I expect this to go all the way down, as Ultra did back in the day.--
Ultra is my favorite DM album. It's so chill and smooth.
| |
Why would they make a Depeche Mode album without Andy Fletcher? He's important enough to where I thought they'd be over once he passed
Cool song though
| |
“why the fuck am i seeing so much momento mori/remember ur gonna die lately“
We’re just trying to warn you

-- Ultra is my favorite DM album. It's so chill and smooth.
For me, it's either Ultra or Playing the Angel or Music for the Masses, but Ultra is the victor most of the time.
| |
really like this song
| |
I really liked that. Cool video too. I didn't realize they had a new album out so soon. Thanks sputnik!
| |
best compliment i can give to this song and video is that they have retained their elegant but dark/classy sort of vibe that has always made them great. compared to other groups from their time, its leagues ahead of them (tho tears for fears put out pretty good stuff recently too - but both bands were always ahead of their contemporaries in a way, which is why theyve both survived)
| |
That's fair Eons and a well written comment. I never dove deep into Tears for Fears. But if this single is an indication of the rest of the new DM album (as mentioned already) it somehow could hit the heights of Ultra or Playing the Angel. The Last DM album I got was Delta Machine. Not really sure how good it is outside of a couple songs it never quite grabbed me, but I didn't try very hard either.
| |
Nice, low key song. Some nice bits with the synths. Not much more to say. Something I'd put on in the background while making coffee on a Sunday morning.
I can't believe I just wrote that last sentence. This is the second time today I feel old as fuck, the first being hearing an old Less than Jake song in a Starbucks. Just being in a Starbucks.
| |
They play Less than Jake at Starbucks? That's rad! The DM single wasn't like amazing after one listen only so far but it had a good vibe and I thought the video fit too.
| |
Nice song, looking forward to the album
| |
Damn, my expectations weren't high after Spirit which was easily their weakest album but this is really good, might be their best single since PTA era.
| |
This is defintiely them sounding like quintessential DM - closest they've come to their 90's sound in a long time. I enjoyed quite a lot of songs on Delta Machine but it never quite made the big impression as an album, Spirit I never come back to. So while Ghosts in isolation isn't groundbreaking, I'm hopeful that it indicates the direction that the album takes is more intune with their classics.
| |
this has playing the angel part 2 feels
| |
Solid track, i needed some new depeche mode in my life
| |
Lowkey song but I won't mind it at all in the album, it's pretty pleasant
| |
Violator, Songs of Faith and Devotion is their essence, a mix of tragedy, hope, inspiration and deeply human. Ultra too, in a soft kind of way, I mean, sure, Exciter held a few spotlights reminiscent of these aforementioned albums, but they have a distinct taste for drama and I hope they will bring that out in their new album, there are hints of that in this track, but it still feels a little too repetitive.
| |
really love this
| |
zemekis I think it would be an oversight not to mention Playing the Angel along with the ones you listed, that one is really quintessential DM as well to me
always enjoy listening to a new DM album, even if it's just for once or twice, though judging by this song this will have some staying power
