RIP Torche

2022-09-17 by cloakanddagger | 26 Comments
Florida stoner/sludge band Torche have announced that they will disband following their tour with Meshuggah and Converge.

Vocalist/guitarist Steve Brooks announced his planned departure from the group in spring, however he added more recently on Instagram that the band are finished and will only reissue out of print records in the future.

Brooks further elaborated by saying: "I had adventures in this band I wouldn’t have experienced otherwise and made many friends through touring. At this point, I live in rural Oregon Coast and everyone else is in Miami. It’s a mission travelling across country to be crammed in a van for a month, worrying about money to cover all these expenses, possible theft, health/safety and depending on others to take care of our responsibilities at home is too much. The only enjoyable moments for me is onstage (30-80 minutes.) Come see us, if you can."

Torche recently released a new single "It Never Began" ahead of their tour.

Sucks to hear they're breaking up. Wish they recorded another LP before doing this, Admission was excellent.

if they have to call it when the time is right, so be it. they have a great discography to be proud of

saw them last night and had no idea! they played a great set and the crowd (who was mostly there for Converge and Meshuggah) definitely met their energy in a way Torche def deserved. Always sad to see a band call it quits, but can't blame anyone for getting sick of touring and glad they are breaking up now rather than dragging things out and ending up hating each other

First Kylesa and now Torche. These are tough times for sludge fans.

Sad news, hopefully we'll see more from both Brooks and the rest of the band at some point

Damn! Didn't expect to learn that Kylesa broke up in this thread too. Shit news on both accounts. Solid band though. Ended it with a great discography

Sorry y'all, it's my fault. Sold my ticket after the lineup switched to In Flames instead of Converge at my venue.

That's too bad. I just kind of assumed they would have a new LP in the near future. Solid band, and I especially enjoyed Admission

Haven't heard the last single. I should change that

Amazingly solid band. Saw them open for Red Fang one time and they outshined the fuck out of them

Band had an awesome run. I saw them like 3 times in the early 2010s and they always deliver. I appreciate the honesty in the reason for calling it. Touring is hard.

This sucks. It really sucks. Guess it makes sense to stop here. But please, please, record more music. Even home demos, I don't care. I live for that guitar tone!

Restarter is the only blemish in their catalog. Extremely respectable discography that gave me a lot of good times. Sad the way they're breaking up as they only recently dropped a song that's a bandcamp exclusive, but it sounds like it's what best at their current station in life. 2009ish when Baroness dropped Blue, Torche dropped Meanderthal/Songs for Singles, and Kylesa dropped Static Tensions was the peak of this sound. Sad that, to my knowledge, nobody has really matched that era.

but still a slapper-dapper
