Voivod Release 'Planet Eaters'

2021-12-10 by Fernando Alves STAFF | 22 Comments
Iconic Canadian metallers Voivod released the first single, 'Planet Eaters', off their upcoming studio album Synchro Anarchy, out on February 11th, 2022 via Century Media Records. The official video can be seen below.

Video Director: Pierre Menetrier

Drummer Michel "Away" Langevin checked in with the following comment about the upcoming release: "We are eager to present our latest work, a real collaborative effort. The new album represents countless hours of writing, demoing, recording, mixing and so on. The band and Francis Perron at RadicArt Studio gave their very best to make it happen under unusual circumstances, which led us to call it “Synchro Anarchy”. We feel that the sound and music are 100% Voïvod, and we hope everyone will enjoy it as much as we had fun making it. We certainly can’t wait to play it live!"

Synchro Anarchy tracklist:
1. Paranormalium
2. Synchro Anarchy
3. Planet Eaters
4. Mind Clock
5. Sleeves Off
6. Holographic Thinking
7. The World Today
8. Quest For Nothing
9. Memory Failure

Animation and artwork are not of this world.

Song will probably grow in me, but the sound may be too clean.

Bit on the fence when it comes to the song, but the animation in the clip is amazing.

I like the fast parts, but I feel the vocal melodies are generic. Some cool riffs here and there, but not new-era Voivod's best by a long shot. I remember Obsolete Beings needed awhile to grow on me though, so maybe this'll grow on me too.

I have to temper my initial enthusiasm a bit. The song does feel a bit concocted from previous ideas. The animation and art in the vid are superb tho.

Guitarwork is stellar as usual, love the bass tone as well.

Song is typical modern Voivod, would like to hear them switch things up this new release if possible.

New song "Paranormalium" is nuts. No surprise there.
