Madina Lake Return

2020-08-24 by Stormy Smiley Face | 14 Comments
The same band whose bassist famously stopped a domestic assault and had a third of his skull removed has reunited! Madina Lake has not been heard from since they released their 2011 LP World War III, but now will return in 2020 with a new EP.

The Beginning Of New Endings releases on September 18th, but four of the five songs have been released on streaming platforms already. The closer "Tiny Weapons" is the only unreleased song.

The lead single Playing With Fire is the mildest of the songs released so far.

I thought they were done for good after WW3. Glad to see them doing something.

band basically is post-hardcore with a shot of mainstream steroids but they have about a dozen excellent songs scattered across their three albums

Damn this takes me back to my Kerrang days where this band would get a mention every 3 pages but never not ever an actual feature and I didn't really believe they existed.

Still don't tbh, but didn't know the assault story. Good on them

These new songs are okay. I'm holding out hope for the last song to be the best.

debut still scratches a nostalgia itch for me and I liked one of the other new songs (Love is War?)

this...not so much.

I wish I could have linked one of the other songs but this was the only one on their official YouTube.

Their first album had a cool sound.

The song itself is really good melodically. It's awesome to hear a really good modern rock song. However the lyrics are awful. Not in the sense that they are poorly written--they are well written. I just believe the message is 100% wrong.

If a girl cheats, dump her. Cut her out of your life. Why risk getting an STD when you can tell "her lips have been kissed"? I understand break ups are hard; but it's weak to go back to someone who's betrayed you. Never forgive a cheater.

Write lyrics about the pain of the break up. Write about how you wake up in cold sweats, alone, shaking like a heroin addict who's jonesing for a fix. Write about the anger you feel. Write about how you feel you'll never love again. If you must write about sex, write about how you're fucking someone new.

Music is a form of hypnosis and if someone listens to this song enough they'll start to believe it's ok to "play with fire". It's not ok. It's weak.

I hate to say it but the lyrics ruined it for me. They neutered a potentially awesome song.
