Filter's Thoughts and Prayers 2020-06-18 by Raul Stanciu STAFF | 14 Comments | Filter dropped 'Thoughts and Prayers', the first single from their upcoming album, Murica, due out later this year. The song is a collaboration between founding members Richard Patrick and Brian Liesegang, saved from the scrapped recording sessions of a reunion record (much like other bands, they lost the funds when Pledge Music went bankrupt, leaving a big number of campaigns up in the air). Liesegang has since departed again, while Jonathan Radtke (ex-Kill Hannah) returned as a full time member.
Regarding the tune, Patrick mentioned: ""America is spinning out of control. It’s never been more sick, unemployed and especially divided. I love my country so much that I’m willing to part with some fans that might not like my message to her," says Patrick. "'Thoughts and Prayers' has become a meaningless catchphrase that gets thrown out every time something bad happens. Usually a mass murder etc. It’s an empty gesture. It’s time for more than thoughts and prayers. It’s time to wake the fuck up and start listening to each other."

Not among their best songs, but it sounds good.
| | | The verses are quite strange. Like it overall.
| | | this is cool
| | | I am digging this. I like how tight and punchy it sounds
| | | His mix on this and crazy eyes are ideal for his compositional aesthetic but the man literally cannot write a prechorus to save his life anymore
needs marlette back imo
he seems to always feel strongly about something politically but can't express the focal point of the idea through the song
the meaning is too vague to have a powerful impact
| | | I don't think "start listening to each other" is a very potent message anymore. I've heard more than I would care to from my political enemies, they never say anything of value and my supposed allies are weak, cowardly and ineffectual.
Pre-chorus and chorus vocals need to be heavier and more distorted.
Meh song overall.
Also, why would they change the album title from "They Got Us Right Where They Want Us, At Each Other's Throats" to "Murica". The former is way better and is a stronger way to convey his point.
| | | you should always listen to the other side
and stop thinking in sides
but yeah mediocre song
RP needs a vet producer with pop experience to really make good tangible songs

Agreed.
| | | Didn't like their previous album. Doubt I'd get into this one.
| | | His voice is just too blown out at this point.
| | | He never screamed properly and it can be seen here..
| | | Surprisingly decent. Dude's voice isn't bad for an industrial rocker in his 50's who didn't have a great voice to begin with. Compare with the vocal deterioration of Rob Zombie and Marilyn Manson, for example.
| | | I kinda forgot these people are in their 50s lol. Valid point with those comparisons.
| | | Painting your face to look like it's covered in blood isn't going to distract us from the fact that your vocals suck, Richard.
