R.I.P. Genesis P-Orridge

Music and performance artist Genesis Breyer P-Orridge, frontperson of both Throbbing Gristle and Psychic TV, has passed away on March 14th, 2020 at the age of 70. P-Orridge had been diagnosed with chronic myelomonocytic leukemia as early as 2017. The cause of their death was reported to be further complications from their leukemia.

Throbbing Gristle is often sighted as the first industrial music group. The group was known for its harsh soundscapes and violent lyrics and themes. Psychic TV was known for being the more commercial of the two, but still retained an avant-garde sound. They hold Guinness Book of World Record for most albums released in one year, most of which were live. Both groups are considered massively influential to the industrial scene.

P-Orridge was a controversial figure, drawing negative attention from both news media and political figures for their occult art style and anti-establishment beliefs. Despite this, they also retained a strong, loyal fanbase over the years.

"Slug Bait - ICA" (1977) by Throbbing Gristle:

"Hamburger Lady" (1978) by Throbbing Gristle:

"Godstar" (1985) by Psychic TV:

Feels like the rock bottom of deaths. Knew it would come, since his condition got worse gradually, but damn, we are talking about the pioneer of something more punkier and provocative than punk itself. This is my David Bowie also being dead right now. What a day. Rip :'(
