Different...
I mean, it sounds like Katatonia without downtuned guitars

This electronic vibe coupled with the downbeat atmosphere works wonders for them. I loved The Fall of Hearts, but this would be a welcome change in their sound in my opinion.

I don't know what to think of this song yet, but before you panic do know that the album is advertised as them taking influence from 80s metal so this can't be representative of it.

The song is pretty chill but that's about it. Wish they continued the direction they started on Hearts.

I've seen people complain about this song online and I have to question how much they actually like the band or whether they've ever heard songs like Unfurl, Departer, or Vakaren.

Departer is amazing. This song's great. I guess I'm like Sabrutin in a sense that I got confused by what direction they advertised they were going for.

Unfurl is far and away the best song they've done since their early days so I'm glad to see them exploring that kind of style more here, even if this isn't as good of a track.

Yeah I loved Unfurl. Was wondering if they'd change up their sound.

I love Vakaren, Departer, and Unfurl, and a resounding FUCK YES to Katatonia exploring this sound more.

the most disappointing thing about this is that it's the first time since Discouraged Ones that Travis Smith hasn't done the album cover. it's done by Lasse Hoile and it's a cool cover, but it's kinda sad to see such a consistent and long-lasting creative collaboration come to an end.

I didn't like The Fall of Hearts much at all, keeping my expectations low for this one... but this song sounds okay.

This may grow on me, the vocal melodies are strong as always. I think I'd like the track better if the drumming was more technical and beefy.

Love it. Jonas seems to be expanding his options as vocalist, even trying out some high notes. Very curious to see where this album is going, because I have a feeling that this might not be entirely representative for the sound of the album.

"I think I'd like the track better if the drumming was more technical and beefy."

surely doing that would kill the vibes this thing has going for it

My only qualm would be how the vocals sound, a bit too noisy and "click(y)" but hot damn Jonas kills it in this track.

I could definitely be okay with increased use of electronics, but I might be a little frustrated if they take the Ulver route and suddenly just go electronic.

I love Jona's vocals, but I think on this track he tries too much. And the ''baby'' part really brings it down for me. However, I do like that he tries to do different things, even if it's not a song I particularly like, so props for them. Probably gonna like the record, though

Love Departer, and Vakaren is really catchy. Other underrated subdued songs are Second and The Act of Darkening, both bonuses of DEK. As for this song I don't mind it but it's hard to tame my sky-high expectations after TFoH, which I consider their best album to date.

Anyway here are some words about the album, see the bottom of the page: https://peaceville.com/bands/katatonia/
Really curious to see how this song fits with "some of Katatonia’s most direct and explosive moments to date". I'm all for varied albums, just hope it's coherent.

Vocals are perfection as always. God he's talented. Composition is nice...but...a little simple? Boring on its own but this probably works well in the context of the album. Glad to have them back...that was a short "hiatus" haha. I discovered these guys during the last album cycle after ignoring their output for YEARS and boy was I addicted quickly.

Love this kind of Katatonia, really hope they explore more of their alternative sound. Wasn't sure we'd get any new material after their constant line up changes...
