Metallica new album

2007-07-06 by Robinsdeadstar | 28 Comments
Belgium's Studio Brussel caught up with Metallica drummer Lars Ulrich at the 2007 Rock Werchter Festival over the weekend, where he talked about the band's forthcoming album.

Lars said the backing tracks were done in May and will start vocals and overdubs in August hoping to finish in October or November.

Lars predicted the album will drop in February 2008. He said, "It doesn't sound like 'St. Anger' to me. It's a little early to kind of put in a soundbite exactly. But it doesn't sound anything like 'St. Anger'. It's probably a little more dynamic, and a little more varied, and it has lots of different nutty Metallica stuff on it. I don't know."

Im not expecting much from this at all. There were like 2 good songs on St. Anger, other than that complete crap, and Lars is a douche.

That is all

I like how he keeps mentioning how different it is from St. Anger.

Lars used to be kinda bad in their old thrash days. He's better now, which doesn't detract from the fact that he's a self-obsessed dickhead.

Hhaha, agreed Chimera, I really am not fond of them. They need to retire, along with every other 70-80's band that continues to tour.

I am pretty sure this will be pretty good. The reason they started to suck was because Cliff Burton died and they had Bob Rock producing there albums. Now they got a bassist as good as Cliff and Rick Rubin is producing it. If it sucks then they should just give up then.

I actually think old metallica can be pretty good. However they're way past their prime and really arn't as important as they think they are.

Goneshootin^
I wouldnt say Robert can even touch Cliff. Maybe technically but Cliff knew how to write good music. He was a talented musician. Robert hasnt proven himself at all yet. Honestly I don't have high hopes and I really don't care. The fact that Metallica still think they kick ass leaves me with no respect for them. They should be praying that they make a good album. Their egos are bigger than 1,000 rich, preppy jocks combined.

Chimera:  Hasn't proven himself? Ummmm... Suicidal Tendencies, Infectious Grooves... he also covered some old Metallica tunes on bass for a tribute... and he definitely holds it down live. This Message Edited On 07.06.07

he definitely holds it down live.
I have heard about him being absolutely nuts live on his own, just like in between songs doing crazy stuff. The two live concerts I have on my computer of him playing with them he is awesome in. As far as the album, time will tell but I am awaiting it with higher hopes then I should have.

I hope to see Metallica turn out one hell ova new album. I doubt Rick Rubin is going to let them put out some shitty music. And it would be intresting to see if Metallica is going to play some songs at Slayer speed.

I'm pretty sure this is gonna be good but people who didn't like St. Anger won't like this, the fanboys'll love it, online arguments much more heated than the ones concerning St. Anger will ensue, and I'll be sitting here, enjoying the record and laughing my ass off at everyone making asses out of themselves. Keeping aside James's live vocals and what expectations there might be for new Metallica material, the two songs I've heard sound promising.

I hope this is good. St. Anger had terrible production and the songwriting was bad but at least they tried to become thrashier in St. Anger.

Does Anyone know when it will be released?
