If anything the length is somewhat disappointing because a full-length would have been cool. It's been a while.

But the music is going to be great anyways so it's not a big deal at all.

These guys are totally secretive and you never know what the hell they're doing. I think they're one of the best metal bands of the past decade, though. So this is great news. I wasn't sure if they were ever going to release anything again.

It's more of a "you have absolutely no reason whatsoever to assume that" kind of thing.
The fact that you made that assumption just shows that you are not familiar with either DsO or Mikko Aspa. Mikko was brought in to replace Shaxzul because he didn't fit the band's new direction. Considering this, and his own musical background it's obvious that he didn't affect things very much during SMRC on a creative level, much less on Fas and forwards where the complexity was tuned up to 11.
People generally argue on whether DsO is a collective or dependent on some Hasjarl's genious. I find those discussions to be somewhat pointless considering how adamant the band is on maintaining some secrecy.

From this we can deduce that this is an arrangement where DsO bring in Mikko just to perform vocals because they like him enough, not some sort of creative union.
