Proof, a member of rap group D12 and a close friend of Eminem, was shot to death early Tuesday at a nightclub along Eight Mile Road, a publicist said.
The death of Proof whose real name is Deshaun Holton was confirmed by Dennis Dennehy, the publicist for D12's label, Interscope Records.
"Memorial service arrangements are still being made, and his friends and family would appreciate privacy during this difficult time," Dennehy said in a statement.
Proof was the best man at Eminem's wedding in January and often appeared alongside the superstar rapper at concerts and public appearances. He also appeared in the film "8 Mile."
Detroit police wouldn't confirm that Proof was killed, but said two people were shot in the head one fatally early Tuesday at a nightclub on Eight Mile.
An argument at the CCC nightclub escalated into gunshots, Detroit police spokesman James Tate said.
Wende Berry, a spokeswoman for St. John Health System, said Holton was dead on arrival at St. John Conner Creek, an outpatient treatment facility. Berry confirmed that he had a gunshot wound.

That's sad. And right after the divorce too.
|
| |
He was pretty much Em's right hand man when it came to D12, touring and recording. This is sad news.
|
| |

|
| |
how can u rate an album when this is news?
|
| |
^^eh?, this is very sad news. At every concert Eminem was doing solo, proof was always doing the backing vocals.
|
| |
RIP Proof, not my favourite D12 member, but he made Em's concerts more interesting.
|
| |
When i first saw the title I was thinking "Please not be the really cool, raspy-voiced guy and instead be that fat dude"
that sucks, he was probably the most talented member.
|
| |
Yeah, sad news.
|
| |
I agree. Bizzarre should've gone. He's just so... fat.
Gotta tell ya, I'm not a fan of D12 or anything, but this sucks.
|
| |
Very sad. RIP Proof. I really liked his voice, and I like D-12 overall. RIP man.
|
| |
He was a good Rapper. Thats really sad.
|
| |
Damn, this sucks. D12 was a rap group I actually liked.
|
| |
You don't have to be a rap fan to commiserate the death of someone at such a young age.
|
| |
A real shame right here. Great rapper, really good rhymes. RIP.
|
| |
to die so quickly for such a stupid reason...just isn't right...
the sad thing is he escaped the cliche of making gangster rap and he still gets killed.
|
| |
Man this sucks.
"When the uzi pop, you better drop when the music stops."
Listening to that song right now. R.I.P, Proof.
|
| |
the sad thing is he escaped the cliche of making gangster rap and he still gets killed.
That's what I was thinking. From what I've seen he didn't seem the gangster etc sort.
|
| |
That's a shame.
|
| |
i guess he's not bullet Proof
|
| |
Ok enough of all this "oh im so sad" yes i agree its sad, but how many pepole reall care? D12 sucked as a group anyways, they had maybe 2 hits and thats it, get over it, nobody really care anyways
|
| |
You're not very good at posting and should probably not do it anymore. Obviously a lot of people care about it. What are you, retarded?
Sorry, that was a rhetorical question.
|
| |
I'm so indie I think my own death is already over-hyped.
|
| |
Anyone thinks its ironic he died in that Eminem video, Toy Soliders, and now he dies in real life pretty much the same way?
|
| |
um for the ass that says nobody cares about his death ur a d*ck
its not about the music, its abut a life being taken over something stupid
think before talk next time douche
|
| |
don't feel to sorry for him. it seems he shot someone over a pool game. it was payback.
