New Korn album

2007-06-09 by samthebassman | 24 Comments
Korn's eighth studio album will be untitled and will be released on July 31.

The album is produced by Atticus Ross, who was at the helm of the band's previous studio album 'See You On The Other Side'. This will be the second studio release since the band signed with EMI imprint Virgin Records in 2005.

Singer Jonathan Davis explained that the lack of a title was grounded in the idea that "We didn't want to label this album. It has no boundaries; it has no limits and why not just let our fans call it whatever they wanna call it?"

Guitarist James 'Munky' Shaffer discussed the aesthetic of the album with Billboard, telling them, "We always wanted the atmospheres, and to really go deep. It wasn't until this record that we really felt comfortable to do that. As records progress, the urge to do that becomes greater. We feel like we've finally solidified ourselves in the rock world, and wanted to take this one a little deeper into that direction. It's less pop, and it's more experimental."

A second untitled album, huh? The lack of creativity seems to be more than just musical now. KoRn was good. A long time ago.

this album is going to blow so hard. just go to their myspace and listen to the new song(s); it's just pathetic. but i'm still gonna check out how ugly it turns out, hehe.

and yes Korn was good ages ago, but now...nah. not even an eight-string guitar can make up for that shitty path they continue to go.This Message Edited On 06.09.07

...that means it's going to suck horribly.

I almost feel bad for them because it's like they've brainwashed themselves to believe the "we're experimenting with this album" bullshit that they're spouting off.

Pretty much every new album from any band in rock/metal comes with the "we're really maturing our sound, experimenting it and moving beyond genres"

I just lost the last ounce of respect I had for this band. I agree with whoever said "They used to be good".

Haha! KoRn was a good band. up until they did an unplugged album... Come on, a 7 string acoustic with Amy Lee? They need to break up and move on!

I still wanna see how terrible it turns out.

it's shit like this that makes a record turn out awful without even hearing it.

Ive said it before, and ill say it again. The last thing we need is more Korn. All their stuff sounds the same IMO.

I hope they only play old stuff when I see them at Hellfest.

New KoRn is about as interesting as watching paint dry.

Self-titling your album could also be interpreted as making the statement "this album definies our sound". A lot of artists self-title their first albums for this very reason. Deftones did it with their fifth as well as Metallica. I do recall Chino Moreno stating they purposely self-titled their album because they felt it was a true definition of their sound. Not saying I agree... but that why I'm an analyst and he's an artist.
