Newsted 'Not A Sell Out'

2006-04-05 by Dave de Sylvia EMERITUS | 9 Comments
Ex-Metallica bassist Jason Newsted has bitten back at his critics who've branded him a 'sell out' for appearing on the CBS 'Rock Star' reality TV show.

Speaking on the Camp Freddy Radio show, hosted by Camp Freddy members Dave Navarro (who hosts 'Rock Star') and Matt Sorum, Newsted had this to say regarding his decision to join the project, which also involves Mötley Crüe drummer Tommy Lee and former Guns N' Roses guitarist Gilby Clarke:

"When people say something like that, then you go, 'OK, well, if I put you in the same situation, and knowing that you have spent through all the years millions upon squillions of dollars for advertisement, marketing, all this stuff, to get your band out there and get it noticed as you tour and whatever, and your album is out and everything. All of a sudden you have this opportunity where the people that are backing you and paying for the advertisement all over 70 countries for your band, for your new band, and it's not on your dime. C'mon, what? I said, 'What time and what city?' when they asked me. Would you not take this opportunity of a lifetime to be recognized possibly at the top of your field once again, take it to the mountain another time? What? C'mon."

Newsted also denied rumours that the band could become involved in a legal row over the band name 'Supernova,' which also refers to an early '90s punk band, confirming that their management has secured copyright. Provided they find a singer through auditions, Supernova hopes to begin writing recording later this year with producer Butch Walker.

Why thank you. What a delightfully responsible and contributing post. Use your head in the future next time you post instead of making dumbshit posts like that.

Sylvia: That sounds like a nice supergroup. Gilby, Matt, AND Dave make anything worthwhile.

Dunno, I have a thing against Dave Navarro (mainly because he's a complete weirdo who happens to be shagging Carmen Electra. But yeah Gilby and Newsted will make me tune in.

If Newsted was a sell out he would have stayed with Metallica.
