I can see this being a divisive album, no surprise I suppose. I for one fucking love it. The 'I will survive!' part reminds me of Devin Townsend. So huge!
| |
This is actually pretty good
| |
Might not be their strongest release yet (probably not the strongest on the albums either), but they really sound like they've progressed since PII. In a genre prone to stagnation, that's relieving.
Also, Spencer did a good job sounding less like Corey Taylor this time around.
| |
eeehhhhhhhhhhhhhhh I don't know how I feel about this
| |
meh I'm really disappointed tbh
I've been jamming their previous albums hard recently and this doesn't seem like its on that level. but whatever it is like 1 song out of 20 so I'm not really worried about it
| |
omg omg so djent
| |
Definitely going to be a grower of an album I imagine. I will say the beginning is quite underwhelming and you keep waiting for that 'massive epic shit' to come in. Luckily it does, big time.
| |
It's actually not that bad.
| |
eeehhhhhhhhhhhhhhh I don't know how I feel about this [2]
| |
Agreed about the "I will survive" scream sounding like Townsend. Gives me a little bit of hope that this will be better than the atrocious PII.
| |
Everything from the 3:00 mark on sounds pretty cool, actually. That tapped riff is neat. But the songwriting/vocals at the start remind me of Avenged Sevenfold with some djent. That's not a good thing.
| |
Interesting song, definitely builds better toward the end
| |
that was pretty boring... Djenting doesn't count as a riff.
| |
meh to the mehhhh
| |
lol people in the Youtube comments think this has black metal elements
| |
"I love the black metal vibe without them playing in the black metal style....or maybe that's just me! pretty fucking tight....."
| |
wtf
youtube comment logic
| |
Periphery fans logic
This album might turn out okay but Periphery will never make a classic.
| |
really liked Periphery II... this track though :/
| |
Weird at first listen. But I really like this.
| |
The first 2 minutes or so sounds like The Dear Hunter
| |
First 2 minutes remind me of The Venetia Fair, like a lot.
| |
Pretty cool
| |
Not bad not bad. Hoping this is better than P2.
| |
I feel like they spent too much time building, 2 minutes and 30 seconds of not much going on is a bit much. From that point on I enjoyed it. Didn't love it, but it was good.
| |
"First 2 minutes remind me of The Venetia Fair, like a lot."
wow for real
| |
Never heard any of their work before. I think it's decent but pretty avrg.
| |
Song didn't impress me much until 3:22. Love that closing riff, and the Devy vibes
| |
gets better with each listen
| |
ins you dig this hard?
| |
damn when did his screams actually get good?
| |
Like everyone's been saying the song gets better and better as it goes along
| |
'damn when did his screams actually get good?'
3 years of touring since the last album will do that for you. He's definitely coming into his own on this album.
| |
Good song.
| |
ah its good, not sure if great yet
| |
This band is so hilariously bad, they need to hurry up and fade into obscurity
| |
I feel like this suffers from being out of context from the rest of the album but yeah this is still pretty awesome, good change of pace
| |
"This band is so hilariously bad, they need to hurry up and fade into obscurity"
Lol okay. That's not gonna happen any time soon. Guess you'll just have to keep dealing with them not impacting your life in any way whatsoever.
| |
Definitely sounds like they're taking their time with this one. Letting things be a little more organic.
| |
If this is supposed to get me excited about the album, it didn't work.
| |
"ins you dig this hard?"
i like it a lot yea. first listen i didnt care for the beginning but now i love it, especially when spencers voice trails off at like 1:50 into a scream when the build up starts etc
definitely not one of their best songs but their songwriting has vastly improved i think (it actually sounds like a standalone song as opposed to a bunch of ideas stringed together). also agreed with people saying itll sound better in the context of the album
| |
After listening more closely this is okay, ending is decent, drums overpower guitars way too much I think and the first three minutes are basically cock and balls but I can definitely see it as being better within the album as everyone is saying. Still kinda weirded out that people like it so much but yeah
| |
"The first 2 minutes or so sounds like The Dear Hunter"
Yes! I thought it sounded oddly familiar haha.
| |
First half is shit, but the second half is much better. Still not that great overall tbh.
| |
yes, i forgot that there will always be 15 year olds
| |
holy shit this is fucking terrible lmao
| |
it's nothing personal, i liked this band in high school too
| |
I was ready to be done with these guys, but this is interesting enough I guess.
| |
The last quarter of the song was great, had the devin Townsend vibe. But the first half sounded forced and lost. Even Spencer's vocal delivery sounded lost and awkward.
| |
I don't know if I can't get past the lead singer's clean vocals
| |
This band sounds like a bunch of little kids trying to play big kid music.
| |
Coming off of Clear and PII I wasn't looking forward to this at all. However since this appears to be a concept album and it feels way more like their debut, I think I may actually enjoy this album.
I guess you know the band is going somewhere when the haters have become as dumb and annoying as the fanboys.
| |
it's bad
| |
Beginning started off with that musical theater vibe like crown the empire. Luckily it didn't stay that way
| |
good solid song, can't wait to hear the rest
| |
Cool song, but I don't really like the first minutes
| |
This was pretty good
| |
his cleans ughhhhhhhhhhhhhh
| |
Wtf ^
| |
Sounds very original and less djenty than previous albums cuts. Production is mostly spot on; better than anything tracked for PI and PII Really digging the latter part of the song. High hopes for this double album.
| |
ugh his cleans can be so cringe worthy, especially that intro
| |
His screams sound so much better in this
| |
idk i like the first half more than that djent bullshit at the end. the vocals are more tolerable. They really need to let Holcomb take care of all the songwriting.
| |
"The first 2 minutes or so sounds like The Dear Hunter"
I was so surprised to listen to this and agree. I haven't really cared for them before, but I'm actually considering getting this now...
| |
His screams have gotten so much better, but him singing "I will survive" was awful.
| |
His singing on this is so much better any of their older songs though
| |
i mean technically yes but not tone wise, dude is so nasally and whiny like fuck grow some balls
| |
im confused at people complaining about the "djent". theres barely 20 seconds of polyrhythmic riffing in the song and it sounds totally organic. i had to listen to the song again to even notice it
| |
Great track.
| |
lame af
| |
Yeah he's not the best singer but I didn't really mind him on their previous stuff and I actually kinda liked him on this song
| |
Wtf ^
| |
Got to remember this is a two part concept album, so it has to be at least a bit theatrical. I dig it. Really soars after the 3 minute mark.
| |
Drew your comments are always so profound and inciteful
| |
Aweeeee I like you too :$
| |
sucks
| |
Semi interested in this band for the first time now. Not totally amazed but I enjoyed the melodic and atmospheric creativity in a couple parts.
| |
It sounds like spencer's vocals have improved alot. He's always been a good singer technically, but had delivery which was at time annoying, but I think the vocals are one of the best parts to this track.
| |
This is so alright it makes all my 2.5 ratings look like 2.4s or 2.6s
| |
Wtf ^
| |
Listening to the first 2 minutes of this track is like listening to Midhaven...the rest is great though.
| |
I honestly didn't mind the beginning but yeah the second half blows it away
| |
The second half of the song makes up for the horrible first half. I think crowing51 has the best description of the song yet. Here's hoping that Spencer doesn't turn into Nathan Ells Jr. on us although if the two albums are littered with vocals like this it might have already happened.
Seriously though, those vocals are pretty goddamned bad.
| |
are they trying to be the next Panic! At The Disco
| |
This is so alright it makes all my 2.5 ratings look like 2.4s or 2.6s [2]
agreed this is unbelievably okay
| |
This is the key for the world peace and the cure against derpin
| |
Wtf ^
| |
"Seriously though, those vocals are pretty goddamned bad" [2]
But the entire song sucks as a whole. Will check this out when it comes out and probably give it a 2.
| |
Wait, what was wrong with Nathan Ells? He's a pretty awesome vocalist.
| |
Yea, on the debut. He sounded horrible on midhaven, along with everything else on that album lol.
| |
Nonsense. Utter nonsense. Regardless of how you felt about the stylistic changes to the band's sound, the man could sing.
| |
