Sotelo is stoked.
| |
sounds like Iowa and Vol. 3 had a love child
| |
Well, it's a Slipknot song. Officially intrigued.
| |
First listen says it's freaking awesome and the samples/scratches are top notch. Always wanted them to do something like this. I hope there's more variation on the album, but on its own, I'm impressed.
| |
I'm relieved that the band resorted back to their Self Titled/Iowa sound. Honestly, I was expecting Stone Sour 2.0
| |
Not bad, Slipknot.
Not bad.
| |
good, good, good, good.
| |
Moderately hyped
| |
haven't liked slipknot in like 5 years but if I was still in 8th grade and angry at everyone around me this would be awesome. agreed though song is the best they've done since IOWA. unfortunately, Gray's death might have sparked something in these guys to go absolutely ape shit
| |
Sounds like Slipknot. Not bad, but isn't blowing my mind.
Also...new Decapitated, Slipknot, and Deafheaven all at once? woooo
| |
actually liked this a lot
| |
I'm still not sure about it. I like it, and I dont.
| |
Love me some meaty riffs. Who's the new drummer?
| |
double comment, my bad
| |
listened to it a few times now, really like it
| |
Nothing mindblowing, but still good
| |
Song is p cool, needs better production and what is going on with Corey's voice?
| |
i like it
| |
Corey is getting old. That's what's going on with his voice. It doesn't sound terrible. But it's noticeably less controlled.
| |
Definitely digging this track. Sounds like something that could easily have been something on s/t, even if Corey's voice has lost most of his vigor. Gonna be nostalgia'ing so hard once the new album comes up if the rest of the album sounds like this.
| |
This is good wtf
| |
The intro riff is sounds similar to Slayer's "Psychopathy Red" in its mood. I like it anyways.
| |
It's good
| |
diluted 2.0
| |
This is the first released song too, which are usually more mainstream and commercial, hopefully this means this is just the tip of the iceberg.
| |
I like the direction they are taking, but i don't dig the vocals and the production (it's not the final version i guess)
| |
I got into slipknot back in 2008 when I was 9.
| |
Songs decent, productions really off though
| |
Okay for them I guess. The sorta octave chord riffs are good
| |
X-post from the AHIG thread:
so...I'm ok with this, I guess
Started off amazing with Craig's production, then I kinda got worried at the bare-bones drumming kicked in and oh fucking lord Corey with his HOGAB vocals sticking out like a sore thumb. But after a few minutes, I finally got into the groove of things and thought it was aight.
I really hope this is a black sheep song though. If the whole album is like that, it'll be a 3-3.5, no doubt.
| |
This grooves. Love it, can't wait to see what else is in store on this album and who the new drummer is. Production's a little strange, however.
| |
Song is pretty good tbh.
| |
Not bad. It's not their best, but better than most of All Hope Is Gone.
| |
Slays pretty hard.
| |
fuck yea
| |
Sounds like Slipknot. Wasn't horrible. Good job, boys. m/
| |
awesome. i have been wondering if they were ever going to go back to their old sound. glad they did. brought me back to my mid-teens. digging it
| |
Lol guys this is bad
| |
Drummer isn't great. Should have hired Krimh
| |
Boring at 5 mins. Would be better at 3 1/2. The mix isn't the greatest either.
| |
it sure is a slipknot song
| |
sounds like what I would have come up with if I'd been asked to write a slipknot song
they've done stuff like this before and done it much better
| |
Good stuff.
| |
This is pretty cool actually, production sounds really stale tho
| |
I liked this track, or at least the potential I heard in the track. I thought it was way better than a lot of the songs on All Hope Is Gone.
| |
Not bad, love the input from Craig and Sid. Would have loved this when I was younger but I can't help but feel I've outgrown them maybe. Pretty stoked for the entire thing though
| |
Nah nevermind. Great track
| |
This is pretty bad. Surprised that they returned to the self-titled sound, but that main riff is
terrible and those drums just sound hollow. There's no weight at all behind this track.
Inb4 "probably not the final mix blah blah blah"
| |
The true question everyone has really is........ What will the new masks look like?
| |
Oh yeah, completely forgot about the masks. Can't wait to see Mick's new mask
I'm with you on the drums dev. Quite surprised that they lacked any punch, considering they have 3 drummers with huge arse drums
| |
Nothing they wear will ever match up to Corey's Vol. 3 mask
http://i.imgur.com/5An3D.jpg
| |
what dev said. none of the sinister atmosphere of the self titled either. sounds like an Iowa B side
| |
They explicitly said they're aiming for a sound that merges Iowa with Vol. 3. Not sure about all these S/T comparisons. Hardly even sounds like it either.
| |
honestly it's so bland it's hard to pin it down as any sound in particular which is probably why it's getting compared to all of their first three albums
| |
Not bad. Coulda had stronger drums, in my opinion. A little lighter than what I expected, but still solid.
| |
Not sure about all these S/T comparisons. Hardly even sounds like it either.
It sounds almost exactly like 'Eyeless'
| |
Lol, you can only hear it once. What shit is that?
| |
lol it does sound a bit like eyeless
except eyeless is a million times better
| |
@Choccy, if you register with the website you can hear it as many times as you like
@Dev, um no. the rapping is a bit similar, but everything else about it is drastically different. if anything, it sounds more like a less-heavy version of Everything Ends.
| |
also, sounds like jim and mick have forgotten how to properly use duel-guitars again.
| |
@Dev, um no. the rapping is a bit similar, but everything else about it is drastically different. if anything, it sounds more like a less-heavy version of Everything Ends.
Don't "umm no" me on my own opinion you rat bastard. But seriously, same guitar tone, virtually identical drum beat...
| |
it lacks the energy and sheer weirdness that characterised the s/t
| |
ok so after listening to both side-by-side in different windows, i do see where you're coming from. fair enough. I'd still say it's more akin to Iowa though.
| |
pretty bad, it's so bare
| |
Damn. I just gave my cargo pants and chain wallet to Goodwill last week.
| |
and dont worry dev you'll always be my fav
| |
Will never understand the appeal of this band. Fucking lol live though.
| |
They've been through a lot since 2008...and they sound pissed
| |
They've been through a lot since 2008...and they sound pissed
| |
Twice as pissed.
| |
The drumming on this is pretty awesome. Whoever they got to fill in for Joey is excellent. Or at least excellent at replicating his style.
| |
I was a slipknot fan for Halloween once
| |
Also this SCREAMSSSSSSSSS s/t, i'm shocked people are even refuting that. The use of samples, the simplified guitars, and corey's vocals sound more visceral than they have in years.
| |
The drums needs more power! Where you at, Shawn and Chris?
| |
drums sound top
| |
Moderately positive reception
Must rule 0.o
| |
The use of samples is a huge strong point
| |
Not bad, like a better version of later Mudvayne
| |
Nothing they wear will ever match up to Corey's Vol. 3 mask [2]
I have a shitty version of it from Halloween a few years ago lol
| |
mix is kinda bad but song is dece
| |
Can someone explain to me what's so bad about the production? I've seen a lot of complaints but it sounds alright to me...
| |
The drumming was pretty weak which was what I was afraid would happen, but other than that this is top notch. Glad to see them returning to their roots.
| |
This sucks.
| |
For Slipknot, this is pretty stellar. It drags, but the sound works for what they seem to be going for. If the rest of the album is like this, I might feel generous enough to buy it.
| |
Not great, but I dig it since it sounds like S/T & Iowa - which brings me back to when I was in 6th grade and listened to their debut. I'll give 'em a m/ for that.
| |
Not bad. A solid 3/3.5 on first listen. Production is shit though.
| |
Song isn't bad but it's lacking in all kinds of areas, feels like a song written by minimalists. They sound angry, agreed, but haven't they always? Like ALWAYS? Even on their last album they still had several pissed off sounding tracks.
Anyway, I'm mildly interested in where this goes but this song isn't really doing much for me, they can do better.
| |
This seriously sounds like a B-side from their self titled record but it's fucking horrible. That intro is god awful
| |
boring as usual
| |
D00D U NOT FUCKING WITH ME I'M BR00TALER THAN YOU
| |
Not sure why people copy other people's ratings when the concept of taste and tolerance exist.
*falls off soapbox*
| |
song is alright. opening riff is kinda cool. gonna be copin this hard 8th grade me would be so pumped
| |
Sure they matured on Vol. 3 and All Hope Is Gone but that maturity was starting to morph into Stone Sour 2.0 on All Hope and I was worried that what they did next would steer toward a more commercial sound after the attention they got with Sulfur and Snuff so this track is a welcome return to their old sound. Iowa was their best anyway, one of the most pissed off albums ever. It might not contain all of the experimental sounds of Vol. 3 but its still better.
| |
Song drags a bit imo, but it's still better than anything on AHIG
| |
Couple things I hear.
Glad that we are reminded Sid is still in the band.
The drummer doesn't completely suck.
Corey sounds Ok.
On the other hand
Production sucks. It sounds "murky" with no bass whatsoever.
I feel like in Slipknot Corey reuses the same 60 words.
Riff is weak.
Band sounds like they are trying so hard to do a 180 from the super clean overproduced sound of AHIG.
| |
was never a slipknot fan despite the typical nu-metal middle school phase.. not a bad song for what it is though
| |
Sounds good actually. Production is an issue and Corey sounds weak but the younger me is freaking out.
| |
This band was my jam back in 2009. Pretty cool track
| |
Who's their new drummer?
| |
We all know this will chart well if released as a single cos nostalgic fans, angsty teens and the like will all flood to buy it. Especially due to how long they've had to wait.
| |
intro riff sounds like ''Noises Noises People Make Noises'' or maybe I'm delusional
| |
I don't like this at all.
| |
there's no moment of intrigue or anything too interesting. Usually they have sections like that but ok
| |
in regards to developing the hype:
the 5-second clips on their website > this song
| |
5th grade me is so hyped rn
| |
that was actually pretty good compared to their last 2 albums
| |
not a fan of that riff
reminds me of like a bad ministry album but no Al singing
| |
Complaining about mediocre riffs for a Slipknot track? The fak am i reading
| |
Not bad but the last part of the song kinda dragging, I was expecting a worse track.
| |
Lol Arcade sucks so hard.
| |
You've made the same post about 6 times, we get it you think the song sucks.
Let the 13 year old in all of us rejoice.
| |
Its sput man, I don't actually think that about you overall, just in this thread :D
| |
Ye leave it now tres, the time has passed.
| |
In all fairness its not hard to replicate Jordison's drumming.
| |
Definitely wishful thinking. It's not like jordison did things other drummers cant
| |
Really sounds like old Slipknot. Not bad.
| |
Haha. It's funny on this site when people make positive comments, a lot of people agree, and then when one person posts negative comment, everyone else starts saying shit about it.
| |
Breaking the ice
| |
Breaking each other's necks.
| |
SO BREAK YOURSELF AGAINST MY STONES
AND SPIT YOUR PITY IN MY SOUL
| |
Sounds like Justin Beiber getting raped by Quasimodo
| |
Damn right, Mall. It's unlikely that that will be the best the album has to offer, so I'm pretty stoked too
| |
Tracks good
| |
God I wish they just quit.
| |
Iowa 2.0
| |
The first track they introduced for AHIG was the title track, and that was one of the worst on the album. Considering that this is at least promising/decent, I have some hopes for this
| |
yeah, you've got a point, Sap. They don't release their best songs as their first single anyway, but the stuff I'm hearing is very encouraging
| |
Not a fan of the band, but this doesn't seem too bad. I was expecting a lot worse. What is the angst about at their age now though?
| |
this is what we waited 6 years for
6
years
| |
Whoa whoa, it's a good track and certainly won't be the best on the album.
| |
the more I listen to this song, the more and more i'm digging it.
if all the songs are at least remotely as good as this, the album will rule
| |
It's about fucking time they went back to being nu-metal!
| |
solid track.
that is all.
| |
The first track they introduced for AHIG was the title track, and that was one of the worst on the album. Considering that this is at least promising/decent, I have some hopes for this
some dumb logic here tbh
| |
AHIG was definitely one of the stronger tracks on that album
so double dumb logic
| |
such a spirit post
| |
AHIG's title track sucks dick
| |
Most of the album is bad anyway
| |
wow this band was finished i thought after their drummer left and the bassist died but they went back to being interesting, too bad i've grown past the "angsty nu metal/hate life girl" phase i was in many years ago.
| |
I agree. The song is typically them in every way possible, but i feel that it's me who's grown up and maybe won't be into that kind of stuff anymore
| |
^i dont think its a matter of growing up as it is for some people certain music is just a phase until
they find what they are comfortable with. for example ill use Prog to some people Prog might be part
of a phase then they get into punk which is more to their liking.
it was the same with artists like Korn, Slipknot, Mudvayne and that for me. when i was a young girl in
the early 2000's that was my shit but then when a went to HS then college years later i starting
getting more into older metal artists which was more to my liking along with a few other genre's (like
punk, alternative and industrial/electronic) and i kinda moved away from the "nu metal" of the 90's.
hey if thats what your comfortable with keep listening to it
| |
It's not a matter of growing up, it's the case of no longer being able to appreciate a certain style of music anymore, maybe because you don't hear the same thing you heard when you first fell in love with it, or maybe because you listen for other characteristics instead
| |
Well it's personal experience too. After attempting to broaden my music taste, I never looked at a lot of the bands the same way when they released new material, yet I liked their previous stuff I had already heard
| |
^ i mean there is some embarrassment for liking soulless music like that takes over the radio in the pop genre. but i find slipknot far from soulless from hearing guys like COrey and Joey in interviews compared to big name artists that all say the same thing, like programmed robots
| |
Is the problem really that you feel that your tastes are too good for Slipknot, or is it because
you're incapable of being nostalgic for things?
| |
I've got a My chemical Romance album at 4.5, so I couldn't care about embarrassment or whatever. But seriously Tres, have you never listened to something you havent heard in a lifetime and all of a sudden hear different things, things annoy you?
| |
how can so many people still care about Slipknot???
| |
this is unbelievably bad
and who are you again
| |
Hey this isn't so bad but maybe I'm not loving it because I'm not nostalgic over this band.
| |
This isn't bad at all, and what's wrong about still caring about slipknot?
| |
Pretty rawkin
| |
@Choccy [2]
| |
I might even listen through their whole discog again before the release of the album
| |
Digging the old school sound! Hope the rest of the album sounds like this
| |
I thought it sounded interesting on the first and second listen, but the blandness really starts to show through around the 4th listen.
| |
Only heard it once cos I'm not too bothered to make an effort to listen to it again. It won't even be the best track on the album, so I have some faith
| |
Honestly I'm surprised this is kinda being well received here.
| |
and who are you again
who are you
who who
WHO WHO
| |
Yum, those scratches in the chorus are sweet. As a HUGE fan of Vol. 3 I'm happy about this song but I hope this is one of the weaker songs on the album or whatever
| |
Depends on the band and the genre I suppose. I'm the exact same now when it comes to PT
| |
actually pretty good
| |
boring
| |
It's ok too long though
| |
I think it could end five and a half minutes earlier
| |
@tres Porcupine Tree.
It's not that long and they use the time well
| |
nobody talks about gematria on the last album, I think it's a very good song. That new one is ok. Nothing shameful about it. Just your average slipknot song. Good but nothing special.
| |
Just listened to it for the first couple of times, thought it was one of the least spectacular SK songs I've heard. Sounds like a more restrained track from one of the first two albums, nothing much there to grab on-to. Like the few seconds with the blast beats, the rest, meh. Drumming doesn't compare to Jordison's. This would've been the second most forgettable song on AHIG imo.
| |
So this has a video now
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sgA7KIwKlOE
| |
Third listen and I'm kinda bored of it already. Still promising nonetheless
| |
everyone check the smiths
| |
Kind of sounds like the stuff off Iowa. However, its boring as hell.
| |
Iowa on roids, and Chris Adler from LOG on drums. Its not bad at all.
| |
