New Ricky Eat Acid album

Ricky Eat Acid, the solo ambient project of prolific Maryland lo-fi musician Sam Ray, released a new album on the 21st entitled Three Love Songs despite its twelve-song length. Noted as Ricky Eat Acid's official debut album, Three Love Songs is the first release by the project since the belated "lost" collaboration with Malcom Lacey's Arrange (the sketches EP) in late 2012, an extremely long gap for a project that previously yielded a total of twelve releases from May 2010 up to that point. In the time since the release of sketches, Ray released an ambient record under the moniker "Heroin Party" on New Year's Eve of 2012 and proceeded to post a series of Ricky Eat Acid singles in the leadup towards the release of Three Love Songs.

Between 2012 and 2014, Ray released an album with his emo band Teen Suicide which earned him some notoriety in underground indie music. Following Teen Suicide's breakup, Ray's new band Julia Brown attracted the attention of Pitchfork Media who reviewed their debut to be close to you. The Ricky Eat Acid project gained momentum on its own from the aforementioned singles, constant coverage by the indie music website Portals, and an online article from New York magazine The Fader. The combined publicity and word-of-mouth hype generated by Ray's various musical activities led to a surprising amount of anticipation for Three Love Songs, culminating in Vice Magazine's music division Noisey hosting the album's pre-release stream as well as an interview. The album sold out both its vinyl and cassette pressings on pre-order within two days via Orchid Tapes, and the free digital download hosted on An Abundance of Strawberries--a website set up solely for the release of the album--crashed within minutes of becoming available.

With the release of Three Love Songs and the second press of physical formats on the way, next on Ray's agenda is a four-date tour in late February/early March for the newly reunited lineup of Teen Suicide alongside indie pop weirdos Alex G and emo bands Special Explosion and Sorority Noise. Teen Suicide also recently completed a tour with 8-bit indie punks Crying and Mat Cothran's Elvis Depressedly. While Julia Brown haven't played since the "Birdtapes Birthday Party" last December, Ray and his associates continue to add to the ambitious 420 love songs compilation (http://420lovesongs.tumblr.com/), which has just reached song number 145. With three active music projects at his disposal, Sam Ray's insane work ethic will hopefully yield great things as 2014 continues.
