Beck Releases New Single

2014-01-21 by SgtPepper EMERITUS | 21 Comments
Beck is now streaming the new single "Blue Moon" from his upcoming album Morning Phase, which is set to release February 25th. Beck has commented in previous interviews that the album would be a "companion piece" to 2002's highly celebrated Sea Change. Several of the musicians who recorded parts for Sea Change even returned to record for Morning Phase.

The hazy, folk-rock sound of "Blue Moon" certainly feels like a proper continuation to where Beck left off in Sea Change, but while expressing a far brighter attitude. He's mentioned that Morning Phase is supposed to be an emotional contrast to Sea Change. Where its predecessor was an album inspired by heartbreak and the bleak perspective that comes from losing someone you love, Morning Phase is meant to capture the feeling of rejuvenation that occurs when one finally starts to move on with their life.

Companion piece to Sea Change is a spot on description. Just a bit more upbeat. So far I'm liking this!

Have not listened to this artist since the early 2000s because I did not enjoy it at all. I'd be willing to try newer stuff if any of you say it is better, or noticeably different.

Not sure if I should listen. IT started out p good, but I am not sold on where it went. I like some of his songs, but they don't make me need to listen to more.

Hey Jacob. That's kind of you to say, but I think Rudy is still covering it. And he's the superior wordsmith so I wouldn't dare compete.
