This actually isn't that bad at all. rather enjoyable if only a little. Leaving AA was the best thing for him for sure.

Set Me On Fire is their best song, so far anyways.

was just aite for me. nothing really stood out or gave me any reason to ever listen to it again & instrumentally it's pretty weak to be honest.

guess it's still a marked improvement over AA though

I love these guys. Caleb sure is a talented motherfucker and THIS is the kind of project he should be developing right now. AA was no place for him at all. Hope to see more from these dudes soon!

Band does kinda suck in a general sense to be honest. The vocals are good. But the actual music is just painfully average.

I mean realistically, putting this alongside something like Rescue And Restore or Augment somewhat makes you question why a band like this even bothers to exist...

I guess I just don't see the appeal here. Because they do absolutely nothing to move or impress me whatsoever. It's like I listened to the song - & my life was exactly the same straight after. Just so very insipid & unaffecting.

Albeit they are light years ahead of Ronny Radke & co, so I give them full credit for that much...

They aren't even trying to do anything close to what ABR and Erra do though. It's Hardcore man, does that go to every Hardcore band on the scene, in your point of view?

I was really just alluding to the instrumental aspect of those as impressive recent releases. But fair enough, I'll admit that I'm not entirely sure what they're trying to do to be honest.

If you'd class them as hardcore, then replace said artists with Counterparts/Heart In Hand/whatever. Basically whatever they're doing, they're not doing particularly well in comparison to the guys setting the standards for the genre at the moment.

In all honesty though, it's fairly inoffensive overall & not unlistenable by any means. It's just that, I feel like the only talented guy in the band is Caleb.

If there were some genuinely interesting, dynamic & creative instrumentals to back that up - there might actually be something worth to listening to.

I guess I feel like it's just a bit of a shame more than anything.

I agree completely, I don't understand that mindset. You can tell this is what Caleb wants to do, and goddamn have his vocals improved. I'm impressed.

Good song, pretty good band. Not too much separating them from other hardcore bands but still not bad at all. leaving attack attack was the best move in this whole kids life [3]

It's nothing to do with technical shredding. Music doesn't have to be overly complex to be compelling or interesting - the issue here is that it manages to be neither due to how mediocre & lifeless the instruments are.

You don't have to be the best musician in the world to inject some genuine groove & melody & feeling into the music. But I do expect at least some discernable level of proficiency in metal/hardcore.

It just seems counterintuitive to have a legitimately decent vocalist backed up by below par instrumentals that end up diluting & smothering anything worth listening to. I mean give me a proper fucking riff, arpeggiated chord or fill or something to captivate my attention. Something that makes it memorable & desirable as a song. That's really all I was getting at.

Like I said it's not really bad per say - just fails to give me any reason to ever listen to it again.

You make a great point and i agree to an extent. Caleb IS the life of this band, but as far as i see it, the instruments give him an excellent support and oh that bass tone.

Nothing quite remarkable on the instrument department though, gotcha.

Yer the bass tone is definitely a welcome suprise & he's actually an alright player - but the rest just doesn't do anything for me. I mean honestly, the guitar is really quite irritating at times purely due to how derivative it is - it's almost like a watered down BMTH vibe.

& as good as they may be, the vocals alone aren't quite enough to make up for the general uninspired feeling I get. The instruments just simply don't seem to match the intensity of Caleb's performance. Whilst they might do an adequate job of supporting him, they do little to enhance the listening experience.

Honestly haven't heard any other songs off their EP though, so perhaps there is something that I'm missing if the rest are better than this...

Oh you should then, one song alone is rarely enough of a display for any band.

Yer course it isn't. Everything I've been saying is merely commentary on my first impressions based off this song.

To be honest, I downloaded the EP when it came out - just haven't got round to listening to it yet. Way too much awesome music around at the moment.

If you reckon their other songs are better than this though, then I might find more value in them.

Completed the aforementioned task.

Verdict - still not really that impressed.

I enjoy the choruses for the most part, as I'm a sucker for decent hooks & such, & Set Me On Fire was a good closer - but aside from a few sections in between, the rest is still lacking in refinement & just crying out for some superior instrumentation to take it to the next level.

The problem is, as a guitarist/drummer myself - those instruments come across as so devoid of inspiration, so lacking in character & dynamics. It seems like they put a distinct overemphasis on providing a super heavy impact, & it's really just ended up being overly intrinsic & derivative too much of the time.

The greatest shame is that the vocals are actually something I can appreciate. I don't know what you call them, hardcore/metalcore/whatevercore, but I feel like this guy should really be going for a sound like Oh, Sleeper/other modern melodic band in similar vein, or at least something along those lines - because that's what his vocals seem potentially capable of.

Maybe he's happy with doing this though? In that case, fair enough & good for him. But it's never really going to get any playtime from me to be honest.

Didn't even know he was in another band. Two songs I heard were alright, vocals stronger than instrumentation on both.

Itsalltherage, i see where you come from with that and again another good point. I tend to believe this is a project of transition for Caleb (the singer), he's had some tough shit going on and he created this project to put it all out. If it stays up its really cool, but pretty much like you i see his talent taking him much farther. He's only 20 yo right so hey, hopefully he's got a whole career ahead of him!
