Virtual-Festivals.com reports: Former Vice President issues eco-'SOS'

Live Earth will feature 100 artists playing across all seven continents - including apparently the Antarctic - as part of a global 24 hour gig on 7 July. Locations in Brazil and America are still being considered.

The ambitous project is being launched by the Save Our Selves campaign, which, as the name suggests, is trying to protect the planet from environmental disaster by raising global awareness.

As previouly reported, Muse have already been approached to perform at one of the seven shows. The band are already committed to play Oxegen on that date, but have pledged to be part of 'Live Earth' if both can be done.

Other acts expected to play include Red Hot Chilli Peppers, U2, Foo Fighters, Coldplay, Bloc Party, Keane, Snow Patrol, Snoop Dogg, Bon Jovi and Duran Duran.

Organisers of the event say they will use renewable energy sources to power the concerts, employ recycling and biodegradable materials where possible and offset travel via carbon credits.

Proceeds from the global gig will further Gore's movement The Alliance For Climate Protection.

Oops missed a line at the end, but yeah :P

It would be a great show, but do you think it will help the climate? I don't think everyone would drive less fuel producing cars etc etc

It's not going to do any good, but it should be a lot of awesome shows.... But they're going to need some help hiring artists to play in Antarctica.

I personally believe that Al Gore is a huge moron. I'm tired of him milking the global warming thing and not even supporting his own platform. He owns five homes, none of which have any solar panels or use any alternative energy sources. He uses way more fossil fuels than the average American and then complains about others doing the same.

Surely staging a gig in Antartica would be bad for the environment which would kinda be ironic, unless the artists and fans walk there..which i cant see happening! They would still need a ship - and all those people and noise would ruin the local ecosystem and some penguins would envitably be killed, but this global warming stuff has been hyped way over the top this jus takes the biscuit! This Message Edited On 02.17.07This Message Edited On 02.17.07
