I'm reserving judgment until I've heard the whole album. I think the song's direction has potential, but it isn't executed perfectly in this specific track.

Song definitely sounded weird on first listen. Probably needs multiple listens. I didn't hate the video, though.

I actually liked Mammal more overall, although it definitely had a much weaker second half.

Altar of Plagues hasn't really released a bad album. It looks like they might be intending to, though. Singles tend to be the strongest track on the album. If that was the strongest track on the album then we're in for a big disappointment.

It's okay though. 2013's already ruled so much that not even a bad AoP album could ruin it.

I liked "Mammal" a lot more than "White Tomb", but I feel like this new stuff is taking a completely different approach to black metal than either release. It reminds me of An Autumn For Crippled Children, honestly. Not Altar Of Plagues.

And that track posted here is still better than anything off White Tomb. I wish they'd kept in the same vein as the E.P. before it.

White Tomb is boring. It's enjoyable, it's not ambitious. I can't compare it to this song. This song is pretty cool aesthetically, on second listen. I guess I better check out Mammal to get a better context.

I guess it's all subjective really however I think a majority of people would agree that singles, most of the time, are the worst songs off albums.

Bands/labels choose their singles with their audience in mind. Some genres go for the most accessible songs, but black metal isn't a popular genre that gets radio play. Typically, they choose the track that they think will induce the fans to buy the record. It's not always the best track, and of course 'best' is a subjective term, but it often is.

I hope this isn't the best AoP has to offer, but it probably will be. We'll see.

well i went from not liking the track much to thinking "actually it's okay"

then i heard the whole album and it fucking ruled

basically what they did here but better, the atmosphere is a lot better and more compelling. some bits really do sound like deathspell omega's last ep but darker with some subtle electronic ambience/effects. tracks 5 and 6 are fucking fantastic.

Anyways though, AOP have always been a bland band. The addition of electronics is somewhat promising however.

the electronics are by no means strong, they only add to the atmosphere really, but they add a lot considering how prominent they are (which is not very)

I haven't listened to it. I often don't bother listening to individual songs if I'm gonna end up listening to the whole album anyway, don't have the time.
