wouldn't mind listening to this. i have divenire and it's really pleasant, though i'm rarely in the mood to listen to it.

^this. Divenire used to be my hangover album before I stopped getting them. His songs work so fucking well in the way they're used on This Is England as well, devastating.
|
| |
Music is good to chill the fuck out. Live performance is also chill as fuck.

That's allright I guess, but I hope the rest will be better
|
| |
"though i'm rarely in the mood to listen to it."
You must be a happy guy now Key. The intro to Divenire is most probably the intro of the century.
|
| |
^yes, the whole album is great.
|
| |
i'm sure it'll sound exactly the same as everything else he's done
|
| |
"i'm sure it'll sound exactly the same as everything else he's done"
Yep. Awesome as everything else he's done.
|
| |
too right, who needs artistic variety?
|
| |
"too right, who needs artistic variety?"
4.5s 3 GY!BE albums
lol
lol
lol
lol
|
| |
this song was meh though
wtf ludovico
wtf???
|
| |
1 album and an EP actually, i don't know what ratings page you were reading through
|
| |
"i'm sure it'll sound exactly the same as everything else he's done"
I understand where you're coming from, but regardless I still enjoy his work quite a bit, can feel
monotonous at times though yeah. But Divenire was berry nice.
|
| |
oh ya sorry the 3rd one was a 4, such a big difference
|
| |
yup, that is a fair difference
plus those albums don't all sound the same anyway
|
| |
I like Godspeed, but they don't sound anymore different than any of Ludovicos stuff
|
| |
yup that was my point
I like Godspeed too but the limitations of post-rock is the same as the limitation of minimalist
neo-classical
Saying Ludovico's stuff lacks "artistic variety" shows a failure to acknowledge the subtleties of
Ludovico's music that make his music good.
He's never been a, "wow listen to the contrast between soothing nature of the ornamented adagio
movement and the dynamism of the sfzorando that litter the presto movement!"
he's always been a "listen as I twirl simple arpeggios and entrance you with alternating ritardando
and accelerando, decrescendo and crescendo that mirror the gentle push and pull of the waves" which
incidentally is more or less what Le Onde is.
Criticizing for not being the first description is just fucking stupid, since the pieces are varied
within the genre (even if at the core they're all similar [obviously!])
|
| |
Damn x setting the record straight. I'm a huge fan of his but I still expect some experimentation and
diversity, you expect that from every musician. You would think that you could get that elsewhere
while knowing that Ludovico will deliver an album with the minimalistic beauty that we've become
accustomed to from him, but I would like to hear Ludovico's sense of melody being used in various,
unfamiliar and different settings. He tried something new with Nightbook with the electronica elements
and that was a good sign, albeit it could've been done better. Wikipedia has labelled this as
classical with electronica elements like Nightbook, so lets see if he's improved on his songwriting
since then.
|
| |
"but I would like to hear Ludovico's sense of melody being used in various, unfamiliar different settings."
yes well said, one of my primary annoyances with Ludovico actually. I also don't find him particularly consistent, in that the best songs of the albums are immeasurably more memorable than the worse ones which really do nothing besides sit in the background and occasionally be pretty
still love his stuff though, just 'cause I like anything melodic
|
| |
i love you xtoxin
|
| |
i even raised my Vital rating for you
|
| |
xtosin firing verbal ak-f7's. He's right though, you can't expect Schnittke on Messiaen; simply
because you have a bias towards certain musical characteristics doesn't (in any way) means another
artist should implement them in his music in order for you to aurally masturbate.
Your opinion loses all its credibility once it messes around the natural limitations of a definite
genre.'I don't like industrial music, it's abrasive and mechanical.' See?
|
| |
solo piano music doesn't have to be repetitive. plus i don't even like post-rock that much, precisely for the reasons xtoxin expounded on
|
| |
It's not 'solo piano' it's minimalist.
|
| |
that's a pretty broad term though, it's hardly reich
