V2 North America Folds 2007-01-14 by Dave de Sylvia EMERITUS | 2 Comments | According to Billboard.com, the North American division of independent label V2 has released all of its staff and shut down its entire frontline operation.
The move means that though V2 will still own the catalogues of its artists, which include the White Stripes, The Raconteurs and Moby, the artists are essentially free agents in America and the label will not issue any of their future material.
V2 was set up by British billionaire Richard Branson in 1996 after the sale of his Virgin Record label to EMI. V2 North America was acquired by the Sheridan Square group in 2005, however the label's international divisions remain part of the Virgin Group.
