Ulver collaborate anew with Sunn O)))

2012-05-29 by Voivod STAFF | 59 Comments
While being interviewed for the Hellenic rock/metal portal rocking.gr, Ulver's Kristoffer Rygg revealed that he is working on a new project with Stephen O' Malley from Sunn O))).

In his own words:

At the moment, we have recorded four tracks. In our present standpoint, however, our recorded work cannot be translated in completed songs.

Project was already alive during the recording sessions of "Childhood's End" in 2008, as I and Stephen kept going back at it from time to time.

Fortunately, Stephen has more free time now to dedicate himself to this project and we have the opportunity to complete what we started and get the skeletons out of the closet.

Does this guy ever stop?

The question is rhetorical, of course.

Sounds awesome, not a big Sunn O))) fan but i love their split with Boris, and since I'm a huge Ulver fan i'm curious how this will turn out.

my opinion on both bands are pretty much the same: they're both good, and i get why someone would love them, but i'm just never compelled to return to them.

Come on Ire, there is much better drone out there.

Do you have a link for that?

Besides, the "news" is that due to O' Malley's heavy schedule, the project was put on hold and now that O' Malley and Garm have more free time, the project has credible chances of being concluded with a release.

Do you have a link for that?
"SRB: So you have two more albums already done?
KGR: Well, one is more or less done, and another one is well into the process. One is a covers album, of sixties psyche music. A proper piece of curio. And the other is a collaborational thing we did with Sunn O))), which is more or less finished. We only need some additional input from the hooded lords, a mastering session, and it should be good to go."

@ 45nothings

Thanks man.

From the newer piece at rocking.gr, it seems that the project was put on hold and it was far from finished all that time, in contrast to what Garm implies at the avantgarde-metal.com piece.

Oh well..

Nadja is so much better. Also, Black Boned Angel, a few older Boris albums, Kahante, Fear Falls Burning etc. I still think Sunn O))) sound like a giant fart. Playing one note songs doesn't fucking count as drone, falls under the category of shit.

nadja don't really sound anything like sunn O))) really, nadja does rule though and i listen to them way more than sunn these days

black boned angel, kahnate, understandable - i just prefer sunn O))) overall. not a fan of the very early boris stuff

also i don't think they even have a one note song, just thought i'd let you know that. it's a criticism against them i've never understood. i think it's the kind of criticism people give about sunn O))) when they're really not listening all that closely, or loudly :]

Maybe that's why I hate the band so much, no variation whatsoever. I mean, drone to me is like a journey of sorts and I want to be taken away, not a place next to farting butthole for an hour hahaha.
