i never said anyone was trying to act "tough." i'm just tired of the whole "troo pop punk" scene acting like they're making this incredibly meaningful music when it's not even that different from the pop-rock you hear on the radio. i'm talking about bands like man overboard who start this whole DEFEND POP-PUNK campaign like they're the heir to the descendents or something, and then turn around and write sugary pop-rock with retarded lyrics like "do you hide all the stuffed animals the other boys bought for you?" the whole scene does a good job of hiding it, but they know full well that their target demographic is 17-year-old girls who just found out its not cool to like attack attack! anymore so they jump on to the next trend. there was a kid in my history 147 class last quarter who was blasting emmure on the first day of class, and by finals week he was wearing "defend pop-punk" shirts an man overboard and handguns merch. this wave of pop-punk is just the next "scene" trend. it's the opposite of punk. and i'm not going to lie, i do like a lot of bands that fall under the "scene" banner, i'm not trying to be some hep kat-esque elitest douchebag. i'm also not saying you have bad taste in music, i know you like a lot of good bands. but i'm just bothered by this whole DEFEND POP-PUNK movement when the band themselves know that they're pushing an image just as much as any pop band.
