Led Zeppelin fund higher education

Led Zeppelin make a stand in funding higher education.

The band's 2007 reunion show at the O2 Arena in memory of Ahmet Ertegun, founder of Atlantic Records, helped to raise a considerable amount of money, donated to Oxford University.

Led Zeppelin's financial contribution was part of a £26 million donation by Mica Ertegun, widow of Ahmet Ertegun.

The fund will be used in establishing the Mica And Ahmet Ertegun Graduate Programme, whose aim is to fund art, music and language studies.

I'm sure Oxford really, really, really needed the money.

We don't call it "the Oxford University" bro.

Also, yeah, I think there might have been more desperate causes haha.

This. There are so many struggling unis, that pretentious shit-heap doesn't need any more funding.

Oxford's a good uni, I'm sure. But it really doesn't need the help of LedZep. Gesture's a good one, though.

Why bother giving it to Oxford, and also for music, art and language courses? If you wanted to help fund higher education, you should have given it to poor students with high marks to help lower their eventual debt, which is only going to increase.

I'm sure this was Jimmy Page's idea. he's done a lot of charity works. but yeah, this was unnecessary unless it's sponsoring some type of research.

This is ridiculous and stupid, Oxford has budget surpluses that are basically unprecedented in the UK. What about giving it to a place like London Met, which is basically near closure and one of the few places working class kids can go to nowadays.

lol @ Pretentious shit-heap? I'm assuming by your misplaced anger that your not educated, calling one of the oldest surviving Universities a pretentious shit-heap is asinine.

However, I do agree that Oxford is probably the last University that needed that kind of money. But I don't think any University really needs more money in my experience they take every bit of money that they can get out of students pockets, everything costs an outrageous amount of money at my university, nothing comes free or cheap to students. Bastards!

I agree that the money definitely could have gone to something more..needy, regardless, it's still a nice gesture.
