His solo stuff is alright but the smiths may be the most lyrically talented band ever.

The Smiths are one of my favorite bands and yet I haven't looked into Morrissey's solo stuff.

What album should I get?

im pretty sure 'Viva Hate' is a good place to start, then 'Vauxhall and I'. i really dig it all though, but those two are "arguably" his best solo works.

"You are the Quarry" is awesome as well, now that i think of it.

Definitely check out 'You Are the Quarry.' And 'Ringleader of the Tormentors' is just as good.

What Dummit said for the best albums. "My Early Burglary Years" and "Suedehead - The Best of" are pretty good compilations as well.

His overall discog isn't nearly as consistent as the Smiths, but then not many artists are.
