No 'The King of Limbs' Sequel

2011-04-14 by DaveyBoy EMERITUS | 104 Comments
Fueled by the lyrics to the closing track off 'The King of Limbs', many Radiohead fans expected the Oxford quintet to quickly follow their 8th studio LP with another release.

Unfortunately, it appears that apart from the two new songs ('Supercollider' and 'The Butcher') already scheduled on Record Store Day, there will be no such release.

According to guitarist Ed O'Brien "There are songs that we have started, that we never finished, but there’s not like seven or eight finished songs waiting in the wings to be released now.. Or in the autumn, or something. When we start a new record, we tend to start afresh. It’s kind of an evolutionary thing... Only the fittest survive.”

In order to hear the sequel to KOL you have to reverse the album, speed it up, lower the pitch, add reverb and add it to the actual album. yeah that's what thom wanted you to do.

Dev, the band made a tenth year anniversary secret album in tribute to Abbey Road using crossfaded tracks from OK Computer and In Rainbows and were so surprised that their fans took a year to find out.

I doubt a sequel album is really that out there.

"This does mark the first time that the band have actually denied there being a Part 2 to The King Of Limbs. So, after almost 2 months of silence from the band, only 1 post on DAS, The Universal Sigh, Chieftan Mews, and Aporia we get a denial. Why not deny the rumors 2 months ago when they started? Even The Universal Sigh seemed to contain lyrics that did not appear on The King Of Limbs. Why was the band silent for so long? This only fueled the speculation. I still don’t think there has been an interview with the band about The King Of Limbs. And, what about that photo of the band standing in front of the 2 trees in the woods taken by Sebastien Edge? Why were 4 of them raising an arm in that photo? If they had announced the track-listing when they first announced The King Of Limbs would they have sold as many? No one has seen the Newspaper Edition yet, so that is hard to say without seeing it. I for one am I still glad I ordered it."

Pretty much said the same thing in a discussion I had with Kubrick in the TKOL thread. Worst thing the band could've done at the start was say "sorry guys, no album". Why would they have to apologize for something that was never going to happen. Just wait until all the questions start pouring in and then simply say "what? we never said anything about another album"

How many times before have I said that a 10" vinyl will only hold 4 songs, 2 on each side. And as for the revolutionary release, ever heard of a newspaper album before? You can argue the merits of how revolutionary something like that might be but at least it's new
