Injury Forces Newsted Off Tour 2006-10-23 by Dave de Sylvia EMERITUS | 4 Comments | After choosing a series of horrid names, Rock Star Supernova have been hit with another major setback in the run-up to the release of their debut Epic Records release.
Bassist Jason Newsted is scheduled for immediate surgery to repair a torn anterior labrum in his left shoulder and a rotator cuff and bicep tear in the right; he suffered the misfortunes after he tried to catch a ninety-pound bass head that fallen from his amp.
"I'm freaking out," says Newsted, "My heart was set on finally getting on the road with these guys, but my main focus now is to build myself back to 100%. The stage is set for the band, I wish them the best of luck." Doctors believe the ex-Metallica man's recovery and rehabilitation may take up to nine months, forcing him to miss the band's entire North American tour at the very least.
"When we started this project, I was handed a list of names — guys who could potentially anchor our rhythm section," says drummer Tommy Lee. "I responded by crumpling up the paper and asking, 'Where's Newsted?' Jason was always the right guy for this band and we'll miss having him with us as we kick off our album and tour, but we know he'll be back as soon as he can pick up and play. As for who will handle bass duties until then, we've got a few monster guys in mind, any one of which can hit the ground running. Stay tuned."
Ex-Kill For Thrills frontman Gilby Clarke is the new band's guitarist, while Rock Star winner Lukas Rossi fronts the group. Rock Star Supernova still haven't settled on a name after a court ordered them to defer the rights to the name 'Supernova' to a California punk trio who've gone under the name for over a decade. Fans can still vote for their favourite on Tommy Lee's website.
Rock Star Supernova's debut album, still untitled, was produced by Butch Walker and is scheduled for release in the US on November 21. The band kick off their North American tour in Florida on New Year's Eve.

Nine months is a long time. That sucks for Jason. I guess thats what happens when you pick a crappy band name like that.

| | | I watched the show and TOBY SHOULD OF WON but anywho Lukas is still a great singer and he knows how to work the crowd.
To bad for Newsted he is a great bass player and i hope he can get better soon i really want to hear these guys. There is so much talent squeezed into one band they should be good
| | | Why would he try to catch the head? The guy has to be set for life as far as equipment goes, and even if he did have to pay for those out of his own pocket, a head falling from a stack is a pretty outrageous thing to assume he could catch.
