Chinese Democracy Starts Soon?

2006-10-05 by Dave de Sylvia EMERITUS | 20 Comments
Rolling Stone reports today that Guns N' Roses' long awaited follow-up to 1991's Use Your Illusion albums may finally materialise next month.

Rumours about the status of Chinese Democracy have abounded recently, after the group completed their first successful European tour in almost fifteen years. The band is now scheduled to commence the first "Chinese Democracy" North American tour this month, with the Sebastian Bach band and a revolving door of special guests expected to support.

In an informal interview with Rolling Stone during the summer, Axl Rose revealed that Chinese Democracy would be released "this year," an assertion that's been confirmed by manager Merck Mercuriadis. Now, Rolling Stone specifies that an "inside source" has stated the album's release is scheduled for November 21.

Rose has been working on new material since 1997 and, since parting company with longtime producer Mike Clink, has gone through a number of high profile collaborators including Brian May and Roy Thomas Baker, famous for his work with Queen.

Confirmed titles for the disc include the 'Catcher In The Rye,' 'There Was A Time,' 'Better,' 'IRS,' 'Madagascar,' 'Chinese Democracy' and 'The Blues.' Demos were leaked of the former quartet earlier this year, and soon found their way into the regular setlist.

Update: Webmaster of leading GNR fansite Here Today... Gone To Hell, Jarmo, has thrown his own cryptic hat in, with the following remark:

"RollingStone.com picked the wrong Tuesday. This rumor is not true

No! This album isn't allowed to be released, it's impossible! Hell will freeze over and the laws of nature will cease to exist

I'll probably get this just to get this, and end up disapointed.

Heh, I guess the band picture really does show what the band is all about now: Axl.

This album is gonna go $h!+e. I think he should drop the classic name Guns N' Roses, and get a new one. He shouldnt be allowed to bring down the G.N.R legacy with this embarrasment of an album

Personaly I think this album is going to be awesome. Axl was always my favourit band member. I think under the ego and the antics and the jackassery is realy good composer. He's got some really good musicans and songwriters behind him to. I have faith, but I've also got the sole most bias oppinion ever when it comes to Gn'R.

I'm still confused, back in March/April Spin reviewed this as though it was a finished product scheduled for imminent release, so what the hell has happened since then? Were they just demos?

No we don't. Axl owes the public an apology for not releasing this crap when it was musically relevant. I mean, it probably would have been hard to release in the late 90s during the reign of nu-metal, but it's still late.

didn't they perform at the VMA's a few years back? they weren't that bad. however, this album, if it does get released, is going to suck. It's going to be completely different then the type of music we have today.

Axl looks like a joke.

Something tells me it'll show in his music.
