Their future has been in doubt for many years. He's long overdue for coming to this realization.

Don't know how to feel about this.
|

''because to me, Paul was such an integral part of the band.''
yea he had sick bass lines............wait?
|
| |
interesting...
SLIPKNOT should stay together and write a heaps spiritual album in relation to Paul Gray's death take slipknot the next level ;)
|
| |
I'm pretty apathetic about this
|
| |
If All Hope Is Gone is indeed their last album....well that's ironic.

Get Mike Portnoy to play bass too
|
| |
thank god
|
| |
...........
|
| |
This band only had one good cd anyways. After it they turned into bland radio rock not unlike Corey's side project, Stone Sour.

uh
theyre huge
trailor trash make them mad bills
|

sucks for the band and all, but I could care less tbh
|

If All Hope Is Gone is indeed their last album....well that's ironic.
coincidence != irony
|
| |
I'd hate to see them quit, but then again Corey might bring in even more Stone Sour influence and ruin everything.
|
| |
Although obviously in recent years I've grown away from Slipknot, this still fucking sucks a lot. Vol. 3 will always be one of my favorite albums. I think most people here like to exaggerate their disdain for the band especially since half of them either a)still listen to the band "in secret" or b)had this band get them into heavier music.
|
| |
am i the only one who'd be sad to see slipknot go?
|
| |
^ yes
|
| |
I'd be sad too, but I know that whatever number of albums they plan on releasing they won't really conjure up the love that I have for, say, Vol. 3.
But still, the band has definitely been a huge stepping stone in the sculpting of what I listen to today.
|
| |
This band definitely was my gateway into the heavy stuff.
|
| |
so many slipknot songs are direct links to memories of my past...vermillion part 2 especially...but i also enjoyed their most recent effort, particularly psychosocial and snuff

Just saying if this was a thread about a BTBAM member dying and I was just like "AW FUCK THEM" yet they were a band that had a huge influence on you (which they obviously do Obfuscation hur hur) you would probably get annoyed.

It was a joke
|
| |
meh...
|
| |
R.I.P. Paul Gray, it's a shame to see any musician go.
That being said I despise Slipknot's music and really could care less if they go on or not.
|
| |
Crowing 51 " ''because to me, Paul was such an integral part of the band.''
yea he had sick bass lines............wait? "
Yea, except Paul was one of the primary song writers, along with Joey. I don't really see how they'd continue without songs being written.
Anyways, I loved Slipknot's first 3 albums, All Hope is Gone was a pretty bland offering though. As one of the first metal bands I got into, it'd be sad to see them go, but I think it would be the right decision.
|
| |
mehhhh.
|
| |
I think most people here like to exaggerate their disdain for the band especially since half of them either a)still listen to the band "in secret" or b)had this band get them into heavier music.
this.
I fall into group b
|
| |
They've always said they wouldn't do slipknot if it wasnt with the original 9 so I saw this coming.
|
| |
No way there done, they'll do the stereotypical "This records for (insert dead band member)" and say it's for his memory yatta yatta yatta...
|
| |
Yea, Lakes, aren't you 13 or something? Wtf do you know?
|
| |
sucks.
vol 3 and ahig were sick.
|
| |
hooray, this causes for a party, celebrate good times come on! dun dun dun dun woohoo
|

"If All Hope Is Gone is indeed their last album....well that's ironic. "
Not ironic, poet. That's just a funny coincidence.
|
| |
A wild Paul Gray appears!!
You used Drug Overdose.
It's Super Effective.
Paul Gray has fainted.
Slipknot: You have defeated me!! You are the new champion of the Pokemon League!!!
|
| |
Wtf there was like 13 people who cares if one is gone
|
| |
"unlike most, i never went through a slipknot/disturbed/linkin park phase"
This is pretty true of me, although Slipknot do still have a small handful of decent songs, this wouldn't really be any loss to me.
|
| |
"obfuscation thats shadows' avatar u cant use it omg"
Everytime I see it I think the same thing...
|
| |
"Paul was such an integral part of the band"
really? i'm trying hard to agree.
I never heard his basslines on any slipknot album...
|
| |
Clowns are never alive to begin with.
There spawns of the ever-alive clown brood spawning machine.
|
| |
Yeah.
Hail Xenu!
|
| |
I'll be sad if this is it. I really hope it isn't. With Stone Sour obviously favoring the lighter side of things, I'd miss Taylor Slipknot mode. v_v
|
| |
Fucking good.
|
| |
High fives all around
|
| |
handjobs too
|
| |
this makes me worry if someone so insignificant in a band can make them not carry on that a7x truly are doomed for because the rev meant way more to the band as a person and a bandmate than this guy to slipknot.
Are you an idiot he was a)in the band since it's very, VERY beginnings 15 years ago (much longer then a7x has been a band) and he was also one of the main song-writers throughout the bands career, a much more integral part to the band whereas all the Rev did was occasionally come up with a cool drum line and create the bands biggest atrocity "A Little Piece of Heaven".
|
| |
i disagree
|
| |
Sucks, but I do believe it is better for them to call quits now, rather than release progressively worse and worse albums.
|
| |
What they need to do is put out one more album to honor him (Nightmare style) and then call it quits.
|
| |
Except that they've lost an integral songwriter, so IMHO they can only go the worst road
|
| |
yes. yes he is.
and the sad part is its true.
|
| |
Well, All hope Is Gone was a sign of decline, and they had Paul the bass player back then. If he was really as important to the band as they make it out to be, then things aren't looking good. Besides, Stone Sour has two members of Slipknot. And they too, are getting worse and worse with each album. Not saying that there's absolutely no chance they won't make a good album, it's just highly unlikely for me
|
| |
Would be better news if this was Linkin Park
|
| |
I suppose what you are saying is true, but there is always the chance that it could be the opposite-the band could get so worked up over this loss, that the record would be nothing more than Linkin Park's Crawling laced with a bit heavier/technical riffs. Anyway, if Slipknot makes a new album, it should definetly be their last, doesn't matter if it's good or not.
|
| |
asiatic speaken truth itt
|
| |
I don't want to sound like an asshole but Melbourne band The Red Shore lost their vocalist and one of the bands best friends in a vehicle accident and they still managed to carry on. That was when they frist started too, they were practically kids at the time.
But in any case, I'm not really phased should they break up.
|
| |
Although i'm not a massive fan of these guys these days, i still listen to their albums every so often. And still to this day i love the first album start to finish. If it wasn't for that album i may have never got into metal. But once i heard songs like wait and bleed, (sic) and most importantly scissors i discovered how much i enjoyed heavy music. That was a little over ten years ago and i havn't looked back since.
I can also understand the whole thing about them saying paul gray was an essential writer in the band as he wrote a majority of guitar riffs on their albums.
|
| |
I don't understand why people don't understand that sometimes something can feel empty if you lose a piece of it. I mean, sometimes parents get divorced after a child dies. Sure, they loved each other before the kid, but... When you lose a piece of something, sometimes it's too hard on you.
Just depends on the case, I guess.
|
| |

This. Would be a little sad to see Slipknot stop seeing as i grew up listening to them, but then again im not too surprised.
|
| |
they should just ditch Corey and carry on (assuming the others don't feel the sameway)
slipknot would be better off without him anyway
|
| |
I agree. They should go back to the Mate Feed Kill Repeat sound.
|
| |
I still got hope.
|
| |
Too bad all hope is gone
|
| |
^ post = thread
|
| |
yea he had sick bass lines............wait?
He was a main songwriter.
|
| |
well... I just think that-
oh fuck, andcas said everything.
I definitely went through a slipknot phase. they were a stepping stone for me as well.
they aren't really doing anything to honor Paul, except make a video on YouTube..
|
| |
People just have a a different way of dealing things don't they, Slipknot did the press conference and now I guess they're mourning in a bit of privacy. Avenged Sevenfold went the other way and haven't let anyone forget for a second that their drummer is dead.
And as it's been said, Paul was a founding member so maybe the rest of the band is struggling with the thought of doing anything as slipknot without him
|
| |
Well, everything that I wanted to say on the matter has been said...
Slipknot breaking up wouldn't be too much of a shame tho
|
| |
yeah, but slipknot and a7x are completely different.
a7x were all best friends since like, 8th grade and they formed the band out of brotherhood.
slipknot found paul because he had just moved to des moines, he had never played bass before, and he wanted to like, have a better living situation. they became good friends over time.
i don't think a7x would've come out with another record if they wouldn't have just finished writing nightmare when the rev died.
inb4 a7x sucks, blah blah
|
| |
It would suck to see them break up. Cause that would mean Mushroomhead win. And we can't have that, now can we?
|
| |
A7X SUCKS BLAH BLAH
|
| |
*says in the same accent as the guy on family guy that points out why things are funny* OOOOOOOOOH it's funny cuz i said inb4 a7x sucks blah blah, and you said it anyways! you funny man, you funny
|
| |
Not gonna lie saw this coming, but I am sad because these guys are one of my favorite bands......fuck the haters
|
| |
Hey man, Avenged Sevenfold lost an integral member and they came back with a halfway decent album, might not be such a bad choice for Slipknot too.
|
| |
fuck you whale!
|
| |
chicken.... and cow..?
|
| |
its not dolphin its DOLFEEN
|
| |
What are you looking at, swan?
|
| |
Slipknot were one of my metal gateway bands too and All Hope Is Gone has some really sick tracks. Would suck to see them break up but its probably bound to happen.
|
| |
Gehenna is a highlight for them as a band, imo
|
| |
So this means that Slipknot's done, right?
YYYYYYYYYYYYYEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEAAAAAAAAAAAA-.......
I mean, damn, that sucks.
|
| |
lol TheAngstyVirgin
trying sooo hard to fit in
|

I already fit in. I'm the one that creates the mold, you all just fill it in.
|

Unmask them!

Seriously, under what kind of rock have you been living brutebeard?
|
| |
band needs to die off.
|
| |
"Seriously, under what kind of rock have you been living brutebeard?"
you took his comment seriously?
|
| |
you took MY comment seriously?
|
| |
covering tracks itt
|
| |
Hey, i'm an idiot, it's what I do
|
| |
Really scraping the bottom of the barrel for news
|
| |
They kind of HAVE to break up now. Yeah, Paul didn't have the best bass lines, but he pretty much wrote everything else. If Joey leaves, this band has absolutely no future.
|
| |
Honestly speaking, I used to love Slipknot before I realized they suck. Looking back now, they have about 2 good songs (everything ends, Pulse of the Maggots). I don't get why they have to quit because their bassist died, I don't remember hearing any kind of memorable bass lines at all from slipknot. But I guess they have to keep up that "9 people, it makes a square!" or whatever their stupid schtick is...I just realized, I wonder if they were inspired to have "9" people from Abigail?...nah...
|
| |
Even though i really don't care for this band, this is still kinda sad.
|
| |
WTF? "All Hope" and "Vol 3" are not heavy. They are more Hard Rock.
IOWA was there best and only descent record IMO. Heavy as a cup of cement. Corey then went tits up and poured in every ounce of "Bother" into the Knot mixture, and then they ran out of ideas mid 2005. I love 'em don't get me wrong, but yeah. Same could be said for Billy Corgan, he pretty much destroyed the 'Pumpkins, but still carries the name to the ground and then some. RIP Paul
|
| |
You took my comment sarastically?
I know they have been unmasked offstage
Get rid of the gimmick, the band, the side projects, the similar gimmicky bands (mushroomhead, old mudvayne, ICP- at least they are entertaining)
|
| |
The bass is inaudible anyway.
|
| |
Don't really care for slipknot anymore but, they had a few good songs and were my gateway band into heavier music. So, I guess I'll miss them alittle.
On a sidenot, A7X releasing an album for the rev and constantly reminding people about the rev all the time is just a marketing scheme.
|
| |
I would miss them a lot more if they continued to put out albums like their self titled or Iowa...But after those two, they quit trying so maybe it's best if everyone goes their separate ways.
|
| |
that's bullshit
|
| |
