No Nu-Metal For Linkin Park

2006-09-28 by Dave de Sylvia EMERITUS | 25 Comments
Linkin Park frontman Chester Bennington insists that the new Linkin Park album is anything but nu-metal: "We're ripping that out. It's completely gone."

The band's reinvention (Reanimation?) is being overseen by Rick Rubin, who recently helped System of a Down shake the same stigma, who co-produces with DJ and band member Mike Shinoda.

Said Bennington: "We're going for the music that inspired us, rather than the nu-metal type of sound," explaining that the new album will combine classic rock and punk with "vintage" hip-hop beats.

"We're straying away from a lot of the predictable sounds we've had in the past, but there's no question in your mind when you hear it that it's Linkin Park," Bennington said. "We've always said we write the music we write so that we can spread our wings as far as we want and try new things and go anywhere. I think we're really going to prove that with this new record."

Linkin Park's third album is due early next year.

Good to see them go in a different direction.

So now, there will be no album that will beat hybrid theory, in the nu-metal genre.

When I read the title I thought they were doing something like power metal or maybe even thrash, judging by the new track on YouTube. Hopefully there's some guitar solos for once.

"Classic rock and punk with "vintage" hip-hop beats."

Err... thats pretty much how I would describe new metal. (Perhaps with Metal in place of Classic rock)

of course they're moving away from nu-metal, so is every other former nu-metal band out there. metalcore (and fake emo) has replaced it as the music of angry teenagers, so their new album will probably reflect that.

hopefully it's as hilariously bad as Papa Roach's "Scars"

I doubt it will sound too different from their previous stuff, though with Rick Rubin this could be a better album then their previous.

Im glad that they could admit they they have a "predictable" sound. Good for them... I dont like anything Linkin Park have ever done, maybe this next record will change my mind.

Too bad, I think Linkin Park was one of the only NuMetal bands out there that did it right. purely ones opinion though

I used to check their site for updates, and fans were enraged when they said they were going to come out with a completely original album, and then did the Jay-Z collab.

Man, I'm kinda dissapointed that they are technically going softer. When I heard the news i thought/hoped they would be going for a more heavier approach. Oh well..dont listen to them much anymore anyways...since there CD with J-Z.
