Mark Linkous Commits Suicide

2010-03-07 by Athom EMERITUS | 43 Comments
Rolling Stone is reporting that Mark Linkous, the creative force behind behind Sparklehorse, committed suicide. His exact age is uncertain, but it is known that he was in his forties. A statement from his family reads, "It is with great sadness that we share the news that our dear friend and family member, Mark Linkous, took his own life today. We are thankful for his time with us and will hold him forever in our hearts. May his journey be peaceful, happy and free. There’s a heaven and there’s a star for you."

Linkous released four albums under the Sparklehorse moniker, and was nearing completion on a fifth that was to be released through Anti- records in the near future. He also had recently collaborated with Danger Mouse and David Lynch on a project that until last week was in legal limbo do to label disputes.

how can you say RIP for a fool that took his own life? he just caused whoever he left behind (if there was anyone) more pain than he is feeling right now.

not only was that selfish, it was weak.

not only was that selfish, it was weak.

It's just as selfish to tell him not to commit suicide in a sense.

bloozclooz, those are my feelings exactly when it comes to suicide. If you have a family, such as a wife or children, why would you want to cause them so much heartache? The heartache of losing a loved one is not temporal, but depression, if treated properly, can be.

Nevertheless, any death is tragic. Rest in peace.

There's a lot more to it than that

Sad news for sure though. This is a good time for me to try the back catalogue

I can't get the image of Courtney Love hurling abuse at Kurt Cobain (at his vigil) out of my head, it just seems so fitting for what you're saying Blooz.

Mark Linkous, a singer-songwriter whose music, released under the name Sparklehorse, was renowned in the indie-rock and alt-country worlds for its dark, allusive themes and fragile beauty, committed suicide on Saturday in Knoxville, Tenn. He was 47.

He shot himself in the heart in an alley outside a friend's home, said his manager, Shelby Meade. Lt. Greg Hoskins of the Knoxville Police Department confirmed that the police responded to a call at 1:20 p.m., and that Mr. Linkous was pronounced dead at the scene. According to his family, Mr. Linkous owned the gun that he used.
