My one argument against the whole "emotionless" argument about Dream Theater is the 2nd disc of Six Degrees of Inner Turbulence. It's simply brilliant in my opinion. Also, songs like Disappear, Vacant, and The Spirit Carries On are some of the most emotional songs I've heard, and I could easily list more. They can be emotional when they want to, but it's not like they pretend that they are when they're clearly just going for the wank.

Meh, I don't have any contempt for WhereIsMyMind (unlike, apparently the rest of the Sputnik community). I'm the Airman that was mentioned earlier by BFHurricane (unless there's another one of me floating around). I'm actually sitting on a bed in a barracks on a random military installation nearing the end of my pre-deployment training and I will soon be in Iraq. I don't have contempt because the Freedom of Speech is very dear to me and he is simply misguided in his anger.

After joining and seeing a lot more things going on than most people do within the actual organization I can say that WhereIsMyMind is a bit right and wrong. Most people that are in the military actually have good intentions or are broke and need college money (like me!). Also, since I've been in my mind has been changed as to what is going on in the world around us. Since this isn't a political site, I'm not going to go in-depth with my political motivations and feelings, but since the topic was broached and only 1 or 2 comments have actually been intelligent, I thought I'd throw in my 2 cents.

To WhereIsMyMind:
If you have an issue with what the military is doing, or whatever "wars" are being fought, think about why we are in those wars. I don't think that us being in Iraq or Afghanistan anything to do with terrorists. We were sent under the authorization of a previous administration. Think of the military like a gun (an apt description I think): a gun will not do a damn bit of harm to anybody if it just sits there. If someone picks it up, points it at a target and squeezes the trigger, what happens then? The military is not to be blamed for what you are blaming it for. By its very essence, the military follows strict rules and regulations and cannot act without orders. So don't blame the people in the military for doing exactly what they were supposed to.

What you have an issue with is not the military, but the ones who pulled the trigger, the ones who issued the orders.

To Sputnik:
Don't hate someone just because they voice an opinion that is negative of the country/military. The reason we even have the freedom of speech is that if someone were to make a similar comment many years ago, they were liable to be put in prison or even put to death. If we start to attack those that don't view our country well, then we're just as bad as we think they are, because we're not letting them exercise their right to criticize the government.

Anyway, just my two cents.
