Fall Out Boy Metal

2009-11-24 by Observer EMERITUS | 91 Comments
Apparently Joe Trohman and Andy Hurley from Fall Out Boy have joined up with Everytime I Die's Keith Buckley and Anthrax’s Scott Ian and Rob Caggiano to form a new metal side project.

A tentative name for the new project is The Damned Things. Scott Ian had this to say in regards to the project:

"It’s super fun and it’s something that we do totally take seriously because we love the music we’ve created. People think of Fall Out Boy and they think of Pete Wentz and Patrick. These two guys, man, they’re fucking hardcore dudes. Joe writes some amazing riffs. We have this song called ‘A Great Reckoning’ that I swear to God, this song could be on any Thin Lizzy record. He fucking blew my mind with this song and I just can’t wait for people to hear it.”

Anybody have any thoughts?

well the other two fob guys have always been into metal so this isn't that shocking

It depends. Super groups in general have a tendency to suck; on the other hand, this is a group of guys who are used to playing three VERY different brands of rock, and it seems so ludicrous that it just might work.

First thing's first, though: before judging the band, we gotta hear some music.

Yes, I definitely agree. It's still a pretty interesting mix though. I wonder what the end result will sound like.

The boys from Anthrax obviously seek a new outlet because they don't have a man on vocals.

Should be at least decent if Stump and Wentz aren't around.

but the prospect of Emo-Metal scares me too much

Considering Andy Hurley used to be in Racetraitor, a metal band, I imagine this would at the very least be worth looking into.

Actually, a couple of the dudes from Fall Out Boy were in a pretty decent metalcore band out in the burbs here before they got big in FOB.

Also, John Walker (bassist for Panic at the Disco) used to be in a pretty good band from the Chicago burbs called The 504 Plan -- kinda old-school Thrice or Rise Against sounding stuff.

Andy is hardcore as fuck, or at least was. He used to be in Since By Man, who were awesome. But this sentence made me laugh: "We have this song called ‘A Great Reckoning’ that I swear to God, this song could be on any Thin Lizzy record"

I despise Fall Out Boy, and I seriously doubt this will be any good, but judging by the comments, these two FoB members at least aren't as bad as Wentz and Stump, so maybe there's a chance this won't suck.

Their drummer used to be in like a legit Chicago hardcore band before Fall Out Boy. So perhaps this band will be a way for them to bury their (shit)goddamn pop tendencies...oughta be interesting...staying tuned

Andy Hurley is from WI, which is pretty cool. Also, everyone from FOB minus that one dude (stumpy) have all played in some hardcore/metalcore bands, so I'm not doubting this to be good. Plus, Keith Buckley is tight.

i'm actually all for this, cuz when you think of fall out boy, you think shitty poppy music, and i personally hate them too, but sum 41 gave metal a try on their 2004 album "chuck" and it worked damn well. people still think of sum 41 as a shitty poppy band, but they are far better than that and i know that cuz i actually gave their metal a chance instead of writing it off as sucky, so i'm all for these guys trying it out.

well I checked the project and it was good but not great , thanks to god that the drummer and the guitar player of that band are playing something more decent , the music of fall out boy was a crime against human race , stump and wentz shouldn't record an album again or many ears will bleed
