Sublime To Officially Reunite

2009-09-01 by Sanders | 39 Comments
Sublime, the band responsible for such hits as What I Got and Santeria, are to
reunite officially, by playing at Cypress Hill's Smokeout Fest this October.
According to Billboard.com, original members Bud Gaugh and Eric Wilson will be present,
along with new singer Rome. The band originally split up 13 years ago after original singer
Bradley Nowell died of a heroin overdose. Earlier this year, Gaugh, Wilson and Rome played
an unofficial show, which Gaugh later implied was a reunion.

I'd honestly just rather see Badfish. Greatest cover band ever.

I know people'll be skeptical about this Rome character's capacity to take over from Brad, but check out this video from Feb this year, he's as good a replacement as they'll ever find!

Edited Chan. I usually flip a coin, or play rock paper scissors against myself to decide which one to use...

Um. They're doing this because they still enjoy making music and got sick of not making music, and Sublime is already a famous band so why start from the ground up?

The singer is pretty good, you're all overreacting horribly. It's not like they have less respect for their original singer just because they're starting the project again.

I'm sorry, but Bradley was Sublime. If it weren't for his lyrics and manic persona, Sublime would have been just another reggae band.

Quoted for truth.

Without Bradley, they are just Long Beach Dub Allstars that cover Sublime songs.

Very different

Layne Staley = singer, sometime songwriter
Bradley Nowell = singer, only guitarist, only songwriter and he took control of the band in a live setting

As long as they're still getting high this has potential.

"Funny I'm not seeing all this hate for Alice In Chains when the EXACT SAME THING happened with them"

That's because Staley was only the vocalist. He wrote I believe 3 songs to his credit, as Cantrell did most of the lyrical work. I'd rather have them change their name, but what the hell...as for Sublime their frontman sang, played guitar, and wrote all of their material. If you can't see the difference then you should re-read that last sentence I just wrote.

I'm pretty sure that song count is off. And he wasn't "only" the vocalist, he was arguably one of the defining singers of the last 10-20 years and a key component of their sound. Not knocking their decision to get DuVall - the guy's great and I think AIC's new record will rule - but Sublime's rhythm section was just as important to the music as Nowell a lot of the time.

I'm excited, it's not like they don't have the songs already. So as long as he is a good preformer, they should be fine with Rome.

Idk what you're talkin' bout, bro. That tour ruled. Paul Rodgers did an amazing job and having a ton of Bad Company songs AND Queen songs... awesome.

Oh, and like I said before, I'd rather just see Badfish, the greatest cover band ever.
