RIP Mimi Parker

2022-11-06 by Raul Stanciu STAFF | 51 Comments
Mimi Parker, drummer and founding member of the band Low, died last night. She had been living with ovarian cancer since 2020. The band's latest LP is Hey What, released last year.

Her husband and fellow band member, Alan Sparhawk left a message online today:
“Friends, it’s hard to put the universe into language and into a short message, but she passed away last night, surrounded by family and love, including yours. Keep her name close and sacred. Share this moment with someone who needs you. Love is indeed the most important thing.”

Haven't logged in here in a while but this
This hits me hard. They're my favorite band. I got to meet her before.
Lovely person and integral part of Low's sound.

I hope and pray Alan and their kids and their friends and families can heal.
I'm fucking devestated.

I'm already starting a list honestly.
Picked out 10 songs but I have to order them somehow and write up some blurbs.
I can tell you Especially Me is probably gonna be 1 though
Absolutely breathtaking song.

Damn. This is so sad. I've heard her voice regularly since I started listening to music like 16 years ago. Low was one of the first bands I really got into when I was in middle school and they're still a staple for me to this day.

What sad news. All the best to her family.

Fuck man, this is hitting really hard. Listening to their records tonight, and am just so sad for Alan and their family and all the fans out there who've just lost an incredible person and artist. There is some solace that she's been immortalized in Low's incredible discography, but not enough. RIP Mimi

As someone who's seen over a thousand bands live... This is absolutely devastating, Low was easily in the top 10 best live bands of our time.
I was lucky enough to see them live 4 times over the last 15 years and they only got better and better.
Everyone who were lucky enough to catch them on the HEY WHAT tour, should be able to attest to that.
Hearing HEY WHAT, it's hard to imagine how they'd ever pull it off live. Yet they somehow made it sound like the recordings were a pale imitation of what the songs were actually supposed to sound like

fuck
