The Ocean's Phanerozoic II

2020-07-01 by Raul Stanciu STAFF | 46 Comments
German post metal collective, The Ocean have unveiled details regarding the second part of Phanerozoic, Mesozoic, Cenozoic. It will be out on September 25 through Metal Blade/Pelagic Records. The album links the current era (Cenozoic) and Paleozoic (depicted in the first part), tying together the geological-themed album series started with Precambrian in 2007. Again, an instrumental version of the LP will be available too.

The band released the first song from the album as well, 'Jurassic | Cretaceous', which features Jonas Renkse (Katatonia). Listen here: https://theocean.bandcamp.com/track/jurassic-cretaceous

Or here:

The song titles simply depict the geological periods of the respective eras:

1. Triassic
2. Jurassic | Cretaceous
3. Palaeocene
4. Eocene
5. Oligocene
6. Miocene | Pliocene
7. Pleistocene
8. Holocene

That's what I love about the band, every album feels like another geology lesson, and luckily I have a great interest in the what they talk about, it's all so fascinating to me

Intro already sounds massive, production is good. Honestly I'd rather just hear the record in full than a single but I'm glad this part II is finally coming along. Honestly didn't know this band was German too, just thought they were from the US haha

I have a rule not to listen to singles anymore because I listened to "The Coin Has A Say" by Every Time I Die like 40 fuckin times before the album came out and I ruined the song.

I just broke that rule and it was fucking worth it.
