The new song is really good

These guys ever gonna change it up production wise? Their guitar tones always sound the exact same every time
|
| |
it's pretty good, but honestly all I want from this band is to go back to writing interesting stuff like In the Groves of Death, where the songwriting takes you on a journey. The melodies are nice, but why is it 7 minutes long? It just feels stretched out.
|
| |
Good song imo. Normally their down-tempo title tracks that have pretty much now become standard are really boring but this is an exception.
"These guys ever gonna change it up production wise? Their guitar tones always sound the exact same every time"
I disagree, their guitar tone changed when Markus Vanhala joined the band. Listen to "Daughter of the Moon", they do not have guitar tone like many of the melodies in that track anymore.
|
| |
Also I don't think we will ever get another track out of these guys like "Disengagement" or "In the Groves of Death". Clearly they've moved on from that - not saying I like the fact that they have but such is life. Insomnium changed their sound starting with One for Sorrow.

Lyrics are superb and his vocals gave me chills. Absolutely brilliant.

Gorgeous song. I'm an unabashed fanboi so obviously take this with a grain of salt, but I feel like this is their best song in a couple of albums. I found it stirring. I agree w/ bloc that their guitar tones do tend to sound similar, however, I also feel like it's sort of their trademark sound. There's never any mistaking an Insomnium song, which I suppose can be interpreted as either a good thing or a weakness.

I hoped the progress seen with Winter's Gate would not be wasted, but they seem to be back with their conventional post-ATWW sound. Not so bad, but not so great either.

this song is perfect fight me

Both songs have been extremely underwhelming so far. This is shaping up to be even worse than Across the Dark.
|
| |
I love Niilo's vocals on this
|
| |
Their clean vocals are never too high in the mix or overdone but at the same time they always feel so halfassed to the point that I think they should just scrap them altogether
|
| |
I'm okay with their clean vocals. They fit the gloomy/melancholic sound they are going for. To me, these two songs sound like they just half-assed them or something. Boring riffs, boring transitions, boring everything. A shame because I loved Winter's Gate so freaking much.
I just hope the singles released so far aren't indicative of the album's quality.
|
| |
i think the clean vocals really add to this song, yall are crazy
|
| |
legit have never had a problem with their clean vocals but also as someone else said in the thread I am an unabashed super fanboi so ignore everything I say
song is excellent
|
| |
Guitar melodies remind me of Enshine. Very purdy.
|
| |
Way better than the first track
|
| |
The two songs so far have been very pleasant but unexciting. I do think I like this one more than the first track. There is a nice stirring quality to it. I can see how these two songs would fit nicely on an album and could sound better in the flow album, but I'm hoping we get some songs with some real energy and riffing. These songs are chill but aren't making a huge statement. Also, I can't complain because we already got that Belzebubs album in 2019, which sounds like a heavier, riffier, more atmospheric, and black metal influenced Insomnium with bold songwriting and insane guitar leads. I swear the vocals are done by Niilo Sevänen of Insomnium, but I don't know who else is in the band or what, since their real identities haven't been revealed. But yea Belzebubs was sort of exactly an amazing progression to see from Insomnium and we got that.
Still I think this Insomnium record may kick ass when it's all released.
|
| |
harsh vocals still the weak point of this bands sound
this song feels very insomnium writing an insomnium song
|
| |
Yeah, if it's the same dudes, then it's kind of obvious why they mellowed out. Belzebubs' albums felt like a continuation of the sound they did on Winter's Gate, so they opted for drastically changing their songwriting approach on this one - otherwise, it would be two similar-ish albums within the span of a year. This is all speculative of course.
|
| |
not to say that i don't like this song, its just very by the numbers
prefer the previous single

Tbh insomnium have always been kind of by the numbers. They pretty much always play it safe. They were a little more gothenburg-y riff based back in the days of their first 3 albums but that's about the only difference over the years and it's pretty minor
|
| |
STDIACD and ATWW are incredible records with really interesting songwriting that they haven't been able to capture that same magic on anything since. The fusion of acoustic guitars and dynamic shifts were almost Opethian in nature and those two records set them apart from the typical Gothenburg bands IMO. But the 3 prior to Winter's Gate were definitely by the numbers Insomnium and based on the singles the new one seems slated to follow the same path. I feel like you could swap any of the songs on those 3 albums and it wouldn't make a difference. They tried something new with Winter's Gate, and while it worked pretty well, wasn't the masterpiece they were hoping for, at least for me.
|
| |
Winter's gate is probably the most boring album of theirs imo. Dont see what people see in it
|
| |
I find Winter's Gate to be their best, most consistent record and one of the best records of the genre in general, though their first 3 records had the most flair.

This guy gets it
|
| |
If I want Opethian music, I listen to Opeth, because well, Insomnium have never released anything remotely close in quality
|
| |
oh wow such a burn

You know it cause it's true
First five Opeth albums are pretty much flawless. Can't say the same about any Insomnium album, fam

Nope. Also, obligatory Be'lakor are infinitely better than Insomnium comment
|
| |
Currently they absolutely are, but compared to ATWW and STDIACD I'll disagree. New Be'Lakor album when?
|
| |
Good question. Probably next year?
