do I grab the popcorn or not bother hmm.....
|
| |
Sure to make a killing
|
| |
this is so bad lol. the guitar part at the beginning is nice for a second but then it's like . . . the whole song. Or is it fake? It's like right on the line between believable bad and parody bad, I can't tell.
|
| |
the spoken word is way too loud lol
Idk that this is that BAD it's just not interesting at all
|
| |
bro needs to take his casio and go back to jail

Sounds like a waaaay too long interlude

Bitterman is drooling rn

Sounded pretty good. These guys have a lot of potential.

The Ways of Bore
|
| |
well the art is nice
|

Excellent, like most Burzum guitar based releases.
|
| |
Sounded pretty good. These guys have a lot of potential.
Lmaoooooo WHAT???? U know Burzum has been a band for over 30 years and has released multiple albums over that span....right?
|
| |
I think with some QC these guys could make it, as long as they avoid controversy
|
| |
Burzum (NEW) sounds suspiciously similar to Burzum (old).
Also the song is fucking bad. The riff sounds like something i lazily play on my guitar when im bored and watching videos on youtube before bed, but it's stretched to EIGHT fucking minutes. The spoken word part, as correctly pointed above, is also too loud and breaks the song entirely.
At least the atmosphere is actually pretty alright i guess. Hoping that this is the intro and not the actual track, but we all know that the rest of the album will most likely sound just as boring.
|
| |
LMAO.
|
| |
"as long as they avoid controversy"
hey, how hard could that be?
|
| |
i thought these guys broke up
|
| |
this mfer loves thule more than antisemitism, like wtf even is thule
wait, wow this is really bad. holy shit
|

Burzum (NEW)
|
| |
swill
|
| |
I thought this will be just a song. Did he indeed say that he will write an album too?
|
| |
Maybe he'll make enough to bail himself out when he does the inevitable crazy shit
|
| |
he seems pretty content now just pretending to be racist gandalf on twitter tbh
|
| |
this is huh...wow
|
| |
Grandpa metal but the riffs riff
|
| |
this sounds like an outtake from Belus

Holy shieeeeet. I will never trust him saying he is done with music now. Super excited!
|
| |
this is about as trve as smok's ratings
|
| |
The riff is actually killer
|
| |
Some Post-Punk vibes on this!? Am I the only one who noticed this, or am I listening to too much Kino lately?
Song is kinda cool. I like late Burzum more than the old stuff. Belus especially is maybe my favorite Burzum. I would say this is probably too long and subdued, however.
|
| |
Burzum NEW - Topic
|
| |
honestly this is pretty good, if i shut my brain off and not think of the cringe nae nae grandpa who created this i can vibe

Is that code for "shit"?
|
| |
I bet kayne loves this
|
| |
no kanye feature? pass
|
| |
I know it's intentional but the drum machine is awful and jarring. The guitar and bass actually are kinda cool but everything else is just janky sounding
|
| |
This sucks major donkey balls. Nobody would give this any attention without the name Burzum attached to it
|
| |
Breaking News: names matter. More at six.
|
| |
excuse me this isn't burzum this is burzum (NEW)
|
| |
the similarity is astounding

Nah, that would just make him a hero in the eyes of his brain-dead followers and his poor fucking kids. Society can handle this guy sitting in his French shack, at least more easily than yet another right-wing piece-of-shit martyr.

One more new song: https://youtu.be/0HALZ6rUh3o?si=QDejTsFqrGrf5gmi
|
| |
Euronymous could write a better song than this from the grave that Varg put him in.
|
| |
No atmosphere whatsoever. There’s just no craft here at all.
|
| |
Holy shit the second one is a complete joke too lmao. You can tell he's transposing a song that should be dungeon synth into black metal by the lead melody that sounds like what he normally does but he's forcing the other parts in that he simply can't do anymore.
|
| |
"Chop Euronymus Burzum..."
lol I'm Dead

didn't this old cabin dwelling fart "denounce" metal a few years ago and end burzum after that horrible "thulean mysteries" album?
i bet he needs money to fix his jeep, and that's the only reason he's making this.
|

Guys I'm getting Lulu vibes

"well yeah he keeps having to restart the song every time the page refreshes so it never ends"
Always had a feeling that Flug has masochistic tendendies given his love for Avenged Sevenfold, but to each their own. Personally, I would much rather listen to Songs From the Crystal Cave by Steven Seagal than Avenged Sevenfold and BURZUM (NEW).
|
| |
lol
|
| |
lmao who is this shit-stained slob gobbler claiming to know anything about me
|

That this guy not only killed someone but a fellow black metal legend and black metal fans are just like eh />
Meanwhile pop punk fans having a crisis every 3 months
Is hilarious to me

yeah flug is a textbook necropsyoptic closeted hypercorporative cryptocapitalist and it's so obvious tbh
|
| |
"and black metal fans are just like eh"
tbf we night never have heard of black metal in the first place had it not gone 90's viral from that scandal
|

you heard about black metal due to the racism and murders
i heard about black metal due to the sexy vampyre ladies in cradle of filth videos
we are not the SAEM
|

lollll
|

Peepee poopoo
|
| |
the true story is I heard about black metal from a Wolves In the Throne Room review on here, so I impulse-attended a show they threw in a parking lot as I was driving home from college, and I was so moved by the experience that I decided to dedicate my life to being an idiot making bedroom black metal about trees
as you can tell, I'm still right where I started

|

> which song has the chuckles, I'm not checking both songs in full lmao
The Hidden Name
|
| |
tbf, all of it deserves a chuckle. they're all half-baked demos. think there could be some potential in some of it, but he's cooking these things up in a couple days and just firing them out lol
|
| |
The Nature of the Gods is the worst one so far. What is this shit? Burzum audiobook material?
|
| |
"> which song has the chuckles, I'm not checking both songs in full lmao
The Hidden Name"
Not good enough, I need a time stamp
|

Yet another new one: https://youtu.be/QEeu0Midw8Y?si=t8dd2V5WgsspZBFb
|
| |
not good.
apparently, he's saying they're now demos and he's going to pick the best ones for the full album.
bizarre way of going about things, but i expect nothing less from varg at this point
|
| |
Okay this new one has to be a joke holy fuck
|
| |
> he's going to pick the best ones for the full album.
That’s going to be hard with 0/4 already
|
| |
at first he said they would be releasing periodically then he just shit out 3 more in like a week lol
must be bored
|
| |
this stuff makes me feel like i'm playing a flash rpg game, it's a nice feeling ngl
|
| |
its about identical to the instrumental style on belus but half tempo, the garage-fi is not charming at all give it some decent treatment and i bet it would end up not being a far cry from his other post jail black metal shite

Beyond the Gate: https://youtu.be/IBggLdq5hhc?si=0D7D5Ed9ky_W768k
The "Umskiptar-core" continues.
|
| |
I went back to see if I just misremembered that Umskiptar, though not amazing, was way better than any of the “new” stuff, but nah it was easily superior. All of this is produced like garbage, with a fraction of the care and double the already high repetition. This might be the first Burzum album I end up outright hating.
|
| |
wheres your FAITH
|
| |
"I went back to see if I just misremembered that Umskiptar, though not amazing, was way better than any of the “new” stuff, but nah it was easily superior. All of this is produced like garbage, with a fraction of the care and double the already high repetition. This might be the first Burzum album I end up outright hating."
i think the main problem with this stuff is he's trying to make guitar-based music again using the same production methods as his post-umskiptar ambient albums. this is because in the past he had a producer called pytten recording all of his metal albums, in a studio. i recently read that pytten retired after umskiptar, which would make sense why he went on to make music centred entirely around synths.
there must be some conceit in trying to do this on his own, as he clearly has no idea what he's doing haha. all of the material dropped so far is, as you say, lacking in care, feels rushed, and is overall pretty terrible.
|
| |
That’s actually really interesting to learn, thanks for sharing, that would explain the marked dip in quality. Slim possibility that since he has called these “demos”, hopefully he ends up cleaning them up with better production at some point and reworking them.
|
| |
yeah, i get the impression he believes his own hype a bit too much these days. no doubt he's responsible for making, in my opinion, the best bm music the genre has to offer, but those days are lonnnnnngg gone haha. it's like he thinks he can make some innovative new sound on his own, using some shitty production software in his barn. think it's pretty apparent this pytten fella was integral to the (metal) burzum sound.
this new stuff though, cynically, it just feels like an opportunity to make some quick money, and i can't really see the quality getting any better.
|
| |
What has been released so far, as a demo, it's not as bad I thought it would be. It's decent droning atmo-black with a "Burzum ambient audiobook speech" song, The Nature of the Gods, which sounds straight out of a Final Fantasy flashback cutscene. Sure it's produced like arse, specially the vox, but I'm not seeing the absolute disaster everyone is talking about.
PS: With good production I foresee this would sound like Earth meets Bathory kind of record.
|
| |
my main issue is it all feels half-arsed. each of the songs have a decent idea behind them, but as people have said already, the songs are incredibly bloated and repetitive -- even by burzum standards -- and it's obvious varg is pretending to be a producer when in reality, he should just look for another producer if he's wanting to write more metal music.
like scuro said, if he drops all of these demos and then goes back to them to edit and get a halfway decent production, then the situation changes. but as i just touched on in my last comment, i get the feeling varg believes his own legend a bit too much these days and thinks recording the songs in this way delivers a trver burzum experience.
|
| |
It sounds like a teenager messing around in their bedroom and nobody would look at it twice if it didn’t have a crazy bm grandfather’s name attached. That’s the main problem, not that it’s totally unlistenable, it’s just boring, uncreative, and amateurish.
> this new stuff though, cynically, it just feels like an opportunity to make some quick money, and i can't really see the quality getting any better.
He’s also pumped out 4 books so far about his early days in black metal, his childhood, and his time in prison. I read the first one and it was okay, but he probably wrote it over a couple of days, clearly there is no editor. It’s an interesting turn of events but it definitely feels like he needs some money or something.
|
| |
@scuro
nailed it.
yeah, i've read 3 of them. book 1 was pretty terrible tbh, book 3 and 4 are much better though (i haven't bothered with 2). minus the egregious racism in book 3, that's actually the most interesting one, with all his prison stories, and 4 is where he mentions that producer retiring.
|
| |
but yeah, those books need editing bad. made me cringe every time he wrote *sigh* haha
|
| |
Haha, yeah those *sighs* he drops are pretty funny. I might check out 3 and 4, I don’t really care about toddler Varg in Iraq, but I am interested in the prison anecdotes and more details about his music production. Very light reading.
|
| |
yeah, i read them both in one sitting. good, quick little reads. the first book was a waste of time and was all over the place i thought. think he took the feedback on for the other ones though, as they flow a lot better. but yeah, they're worth checking out if you're interested in how the album's were made, and if you want to read about norway's prison system haha
|
| |
"The "Umskiptar-core" continues."
That's definitely not a bad thing xD
