Finally.
|
| |
oh shit it happened
|
| |
these are fucking awful
|
| |
sweet
|
| |
'Progcrastinators', lol
|
| |
hahaha very cheeky Sitar, you are veritably incorrigible
|
| |
there's a lot of interesting, complex things going on underneath these tunes, despite the bad audio recording. stoked to hear studio versions of these songs
|
| |
expecting this to be just as bad as last APC
|
| |
time to open my third eye and listen to some real music
|
| |
'Progcrastinators', lol [2]
|
| |
Joe Rogan the band
|
| |
"Joe Rogan the band"
fucking lol
|
| |
You're not wrong but still fuck off
|
| |
not bad but tool live is always kinda hit or miss I find. I'll reserve judgement for the album
|
| |
"The closest estimate to a possible release date continues to be mid-May to mid-July"
Of 2021, if we're taking bets here
|
| |
I have faith it'll be a surprise drop.
|
| |
i mean it's hard to judge the tunes based on a crappy phone recording of the first or second time they've ever played on a song. progress is progress. danny is still a beast. hard to tell if descending is actually complete or they are just jamming.
|
| |
If we're talking about Tool, best to sitdown.
|
| |
“not bad but tool live is always kinda hit or miss I find.”
I was there for the set. It was awesome, and the florida audience was fuckin wild
|
| |
I actually like these huh
|
| |
"expecting this to be just as bad as last APC"
Eat the Elephant was basically Thirteenth Step-lite tho, so it was still pretty dope
|
| |
niiice Wolfe. I find Jones is the one who can make or break their live set. I've seen them before and he fell off time and butchered a couple tunes
|
| |
I was mainly able to see the other 3 anyway. Chancellor and Carey impressed me the most.
|
| |
The time is upon us. Both are sounding massive.
Undoubtedly will attract plenty of naysayers but I fuck with it.
|
| |
Sounds so much like Tool that I can't escape the feeling I've heard these songs before.
|
| |
'Eat the Elephant was basically Thirteenth Step-lite tho'
you say that like it's a good thing
|
| |
you say you say that like we dont obviously know his delusional ass really does think it's a good thing
|
| |
can't wait to hear the studio versions once the album comes out in 2035
|
| |
these are sososo good, album is about to RIP hard
|
| |
It’s tempting but I’m waiting to consume the album in full and studio quality. Not even gonna listen to any singles. This is sacred lol.
|
| |
I just had a mean burrito and I'm about to rip hard
|
| |
Joe Rogan the band' hahahahahaha
Seriously though imagine a band you love who youve been dying to hear new stuff from plays some new shit live and you STILL fucking talk through it.
|
| |
"you say that like it's a good thing"
Thirteenth Step rules tho
|
| |
Oh fuck it’s happening
|
| |
> Thirteenth Step rules tho
Yep.
New tracks rip instrumentally, vox do kinda sound like EtE Maynard, but I'll reserve that judgement for studio.
Was wondering how this sputnik would react to new Tool, I see it's still too cool. Danny Carey is out of his goddamn mind!
|
| |
Descending isn’t new btw, they’ve been playing it live for years
|
| |
no.
|
| |
Was almost sure this link was going to redirect me to a virus download
|
| |
"time to open my brown eye and listen to some real music" [2]
|
| |
"Joe Rogan the band"
I'm dying
|
| |
"Joe Rogan the band"
It's entirely possible.
|
| |
Holy fuck, just release the album already so people can complain about how it isn't as good as Lateralus already
This band really knows how to drag things out, not just their songs, but I guess also their album announcements
|
| |
Bill Hicks and Joe Rogan spend the afternoon tapping DMT into their spinal cords with bean burritos between the cheeks of their arse.
|
| |
Good thread
|
| |
will undoubtedly suck
|
| |
george r r martin the band
|
| |
'Progcrastinators', lol [3]
|
| |
Invincible as a song name is so un-tool like. Makes me think of like Celine Dion or some boy band. By the way, how do we know that these are the song titles, anyway? Have the band said that they are?
|
| |
Agreed, i already thought that upon first seeing the song titles.
I really hope the vocals are more interesting because damn those were a snoozefest. Yeah i know he's in his fifties now but there are still vocalists in his age that still kick ass
|
| |
The potential problem with this album, if there will be one, will be in the mixing. The vocals on the APC album were good, but they were mixed so loud and sounded disconnected from the instrumentals. If that happens in Tool it'll completely strip the band's vibe away because Maynard has always sounded drowned in the band (unless it was a quiet song). Which adds to the dense sound of the band. Let's hope they use the same mixer as the last two albums and do it in a similar way.
|
| |
Once again this is a valid point. Then again Tool was always well produced, i don't think this will be an actual issue
|
| |
And that's all we'll ever hear from them again.
|
| |
"The potential problem with this album, if there will be one, will be in the mixing. The vocals on the APC album were good, but they were mixed so loud and sounded disconnected from the instrumentals."
APC has always been much more vocal focused than Tool. And it's highly unlikely that this album is being mixed by the same person who mixed EtE.
|
| |
Yeah that would be pretty weird. At this point i'm not even expecting much in terms of vocals if the music is actually interesting and they bring in some new elements
|
| |
Does he say
''Warrior
Struggling
To remain
Relevant''?
And
''Where I've been? Here I am''
;-)
|
| |
'Eat the Elephant was basically Thirteenth Step-lite tho'
'you say that like it's a good thing' (2)
tbf Thirteenth step was at least twice as good as ETE... which makes it a hard 2.5/5.
|
| |
Eat the Elephant is my favorite APC
|
| |
...I think Invincible sucks...Descending is goodish but still so long, but Invincible is just has like nothing going for it...
I'm worried but not surprised either, pretty sure Tool has long since been dysfunctional since 2012- with the huge split between Maynard and the band. Just listen to how much the vocals feel like they were thrown on top without any collaboration with the instrumental.
|
| |
Just to preface, I'm a fucking long time Tool fan - long songs aren't a problem. Fucking Third Eye for christ sake is one of my favourite songs of theirs, but these songs don't go anywhere near enough changes and elements to stay musically exciting or interesting. And when it falls down to just chugging...man that's like bottom of the barrel.
What's the bet half the record has songs ending in chugged out riffs all drop D...wait, that's already 50% of Tool's songs...
|
| |
"Just listen to how much the vocals feel like they were thrown on top without any collaboration with the instrumental"
That's how they worked for the previous two albums though. Adam,Justin and Danny wrote the songs and Maynard added vocals later when they were done.
|
| |
I'm gonna say no
|
| |
Omg it’s happening :O
|
| |
why do these sound like every other tool song ive ever heard
|
| |
even though everyone else got snippets, the songs actually sounded kickass in between their old material and they were looong. the set ruled.
|
| |
''why do these sound like every other tool song ive ever heard''
They kinda do, don't they? Like: a lot.
I like the vibes, the flow, but they're quite long for how uneventful they seem at first glance.
|
| |
tool sounding like tool???? after 13 years???? who would've thought
|
| |
Fair enough! Let's find out what the actual recordings sound like before going into those kinds of arguments.
|
| |
I haven't checked the recordings cuz I have my own from that night. Obviously a different experience once you're up front listening to these. I'm also not one to to negatively extrapolate using poor quality, far-framed live recordings how the songs will translate on record cuz that's fairly petty and reaching. There's still overdubs, tracking, and effects that haven't been implemented at the show yet.
Yes, it's been 13 years.
Yes, everyone has overlistened to their music over the years to the point the new stuff "sounds like Tool".
Yes, hype is mostly not worthwhile and people have lived long enough to know better (or should). It's been too long for me to care to hold expectations and any resentment for all of the teasing and narratives.
Yes, they're all still old too. Maynard doesn't belt it out like he used to but they all proved to be solid and energetic after all of these years.
won't lie that the show made me realise all over again after 10 years that I'm a fan after 20 fuckin years of listening to them, but for the most part I've seen people jump at the read to discredit phone recordings as if they hadn't learned their lesson from youtube after all of this time in their internet experiences.
|
| |
To clarify: I meant the studio versions with ''recordings''.
Nice! I'd love to see them live sometime, never have.
|
| |
I gotchu, my post was for everyone else
|
| |
Tool has been playing Descending on tour for about 2 years now, but whatever, enjoy the 'debut'
|
| |
"Tool has been playing Descending on tour for about 2 years now, but whatever, enjoy the 'debut'"
Tool has been playing Descending in instrumental jam form for at least 4 years. This is its debut as an actual complete song with vocals. So yes, it is actually the 'debut'.
|
| |
People already judging an entire album based on shitty recordings of live songs.
|
| |
I saw them play a shorter version of "Descending" live back in January 2016, though the new version is much better. It's a shame that "Invincible" isn't nearly as good and sounds like the average Tool song without anything to make it stand out above the rest their discography.
Basically, I agree with everything GooGooGaJoob said.
|
| |
Cool songs. Can t wait to check them on studio version, as a complete piece, with full attention to the details. Only remark is that 13 years later nothing is added or different in their sound, but this opinion may change. Dig the thigh heavy riff at Invincible's ending.
|
| |
no innovation after 13 years is a bit disappointing, but I'm excited nonetheless
|
| |
People already judging an entire album based on shitty recordings of live songs. [2]
I lol'd at "potential problem with the album's recording" like wtf dude.
|
| |
can't wait to hear the studio versions, they sound great
|
| |
"potential problem with the album's recording" lol
|
| |
There are so many jaded people in this thread. Invincible sounds great.
|
| |
After so many years of waiting, it won't matter if they release the best album ever recorded. The fan-made expectations are so high that a lot of people will find it disappointing.
|
| |
awesome
|
| |
most annoying prog band in the world
meh
|
| |
as much as i love this band theyre so f'n overrated and overhyped this album prolly wont even be as good as people make it because of anticipation for so many years.
|
| |
Your kinda right about judging on phone recordings, but the alarm bells are going a bit. Expectations schmecktation, it doesn't fucking matter how much time there is between an honestly great album - I just hope they didn't do this with the only motivation being 'for the fans sake.'
|
| |
These songs could be absolute poopoo, all I care about is if their active if that means they'll put a King Crimson and finally reluctantly add their music to streaming.
|
| |
I can't believe I actually expected their sound to change by even an inkling after 13 years. What's here is pretty alright though I suppose
|
| |
I can’t wait. I think Invincible has a great build. Some pretty awesome drumming towards the end to go along with some pretty simple and heavy riffs
|
| |
“These songs could be absolute poopoo, all I care about is if their active if that means they'll put a King Crimson and finally reluctantly add their music to streaming.”
Well they finally just posted profiles on Spotify and Tool. Should happen soon.
|
| |
I can't wait to hear a good clean studio version of these new songs
|
| |
Is it even possible to still care about this?
|
| |
if you have no personality there's not much to care about now that the avengers movies are over
|
| |
"all I care about is if their active if that means they'll put a King Crimson and finally reluctantly add their music to streaming.!"
Saw some news about Tool profiles being created for Spotify and Apple Music so it's possible.
|
| |
Don't have high hopes for the album as it still seems that Tool think they are a prog band capable of writing interesting and engaging 10+minute songs. They're not, and thay never were. Wish they would just stick to writing straight-up rock songs like Parabola, Stinkfist, 46&2 and leave the prog to the bands that do it well.
That said, the songs sound...fine. But like someone else pointed out, have they not evolved at all in all this time? Heard it all before.
|
| |
Band sucks as hard as ever. I wonder if Maynard’s mom died just to get away from his awful voice.
|
| |
savage, i love it
|
| |
jones is by far the most boring guitarist to ever aid in the creation of an all time great album (lateralus)
|
| |
Yep these sure are 2 Tool songs.
|
| |
'Yep these sure are 2 Tool songs.'
lel, amen
|
| |
"jones is by far the most boring guitarist to ever aid in the creation of an all time great album (lateralus)"
Huh?
|
| |
A lot of salty, cynical fucks here.
|
| |
New album August 30th
|
| |
🤣🤣🤣
|
| |
So glad you waste your time commenting on how much you don't enjoy the songs. Your life is wild. I'm so jealous.
|
| |
Fibonacci sequence nerds rise up, your time has come again
|
| |
Not sure why people love to hate on Tool so much. I never see comments like "Yep, sounds like a Converge song", or place any band there for that matter that has a distinct sound that they stick to.
|
| |
^^exactly. or any of the other thousand bands that haven't changed their sound all that much. a band becomes "cool" to hate. if tool came out sounding completely different those same exact people would complain that they changed from their earlier material.
to the guy with the claim "that Tool think they are a prog band capable of writing interesting and engaging 10+minute songs. They're not, and thay never were." here's a list of 8 plus minute songs tool have written that are incredible: Eulogy, Pushit, Third Eye, The Grudge, Lateralus, Disposition/Reflection/Triad, Pushit Live off Salival, Disgustipated, 10,000 Days, Rosetta Stoned, Right in Two. If you think tool's best songs are stinkfist and parabola you haven't been listening and don't know what the fuck you are talking about so kindly fuck off.
also just getting around to invincible, sounds way cooler than descending.
|
| |
''Not sure why people love to hate on Tool so much. I never see comments like "Yep, sounds like a Converge song", or place any band there for that matter that has a distinct sound that they stick to.''
I think this is because they have reached very high levels of acclaim/many people expect them to be the best-of-the-best. If they release safe material (such as songs that sound exactly like music they've been making for ~20 years) that is going to raise some eyebrows. It's no blow-me-away-and-wipe-me-up level of excellence if you've 'heard it before'.
|
| |
We should place bets whether the album will be streaming if it is actually released on that day
Even King Crimson stream (Apple Music) or will stream (Spotify & the rest) their stuff now
|
| |
"Band sucks as hard as ever. I wonder if Maynard’s mom died just to get away from his awful voice. "
It's always great to see that the mentally retarded are still accepted by Sputnik's community
|
| |
"A lot of salty, cynical fucks here."
Projection and low self-esteem explains most of those.
|
| |
Valk it’s called a roast.
|
| |
I don't want to judge too much since the quality is shit, but neither one of these songs really did anything for me. They both have a few interesting moments, but as a whole they're honestly pretty damn boring.
|
| |

Best quality so far of the new songs. These recordings are from their second performance (yesterday)
Gotta say, the songs are definitely sounding better than on the debut performance.
|
| |
wow a lot of people on their period, but that’s a given on this moody cunt of a website.
Anyway these songs are awesome, they’ve exceeded my expectations.
|
| |
I cannot stop listening to Invincible, what an amazing song
|
| |

"a lot of people on their period, but that’s a given on this moody cunt of a website."
He said, unironically.
|
| |
Hahaha Egarran! A beaut of cosmic-vaginal proportions.
...I mean, that 2001: A Space Odyssey-baby had to come from somewhere.
|
| |
Invincible is good but man does it drag too long
|
| |
Tbh this sounds promising to me. Has classic tool written all over it. Stoked.
|
| |
Going into it with absolutely no expectations whatsoever, the songs are decent. Not a fan of the band at all, but I am looking forward to checking this out later in the year.
|
| |
Got my Aftershock tickets, can't wait to see them live in October!!!
|
| |
"but man does it drag too long"
Half of Tool's discography
|

kinda, sometimes
