R.I.P. Paul O'Neill 2017-04-06 by manosg EMERITUS | 17 Comments | American music producer, composer, lyricist and songwriter Paul O'Neill has died at the age of 61 due to an unspecified chronic illness.
Apart from his other projects, Paul became known essentially as a member of the American power/progressive metal act Savatage after he initially collaborated with them on Hall of the Mountain King in 1987. He was responsible for the band’s shift towards a more symphonic / Broadway sound and was also the mastermind behind concept albums Dead Winter Dead and The Wake of Magellan.
In 1996, he formed Trans-Siberian Orchestra and brought with him Savatage members Jon Oliva, Al Pitrelli and Robert Kinkel who served as performers on the band’s rock operas. The last LP of TSO was 2015’s Letters From The Labyrinth.
The sad news were announced on April 5, 2017 via Trans-Siberian Orchestra’s Facebook page with the following post:
“The entire Trans-Siberian Orchestra family, past and present, is heartbroken to share the devastating news that Paul O’Neill has passed away from chronic illness.
He was our friend and our leader -- a truly creative spirit and an altruistic soul. This is a profound and indescribable loss for us all.
We ask that you respect Paul’s family’s privacy now.
We will make additional announcements shortly.”
Rest in Peace, Paul.
