My balls dropped five floors after hearing Pretty Done.
|
| |
Listened to Pretty Done and went no further, want this to be a surprise.
Song sounded p kick ass, though.
|
| |
Stupidly excited for this now. Pretty Done, Lab Monkey, Hung on a Hook, Phantom Limb and the title track are all stellar.
|
| |
Not sure whether or not to listen. I kind of want it to be a surprise. Been jamming the shit out of Stone lately though.
|
| |
Stone rules, so does this. All my doubts about DuVall being bad were suddenly washed away.
|
| |
I'd rather have more patience.
|
| |
They're keeping this one well guarded
|
| |
This isn't gonna leak, is it?
|
| |
Very very sludgy sound. Interesting...
|
| |
It's only a 7 day wait
|
| |
It will leak in the next few days. Comes out on Friday in Europe.
|
| |
Not here it isn't
Apparently in Germany it is
|
| |
"Stupidly excited for this now"
Was stupidly excited before the previews, now I'm insanely excited for this.
|
| |
90 seconds from every song? lol jesus christ
Not gonna bother listening, no real point, just gonna wait for the album
|
| |
Be surprised if this was any less than a 4.
|
| |
I gave BGWTB a 4.5 so I'm hoping for good things
Haven't heard anything other than Hollow though
|
| |
Wow this album looks like it will be at least a 4. Sounds even better than Black Gives Way to Blue.
|
| |
interesting, seems that they've brought the tempos down even more and made the guitar work more atmospheric. Pretty Done sounds awesome, and the title track reminds me of Love Hate Love and I Can't Remember at spots
|
| |
You guys try so hard to make me click that.
|
| |
Stone is a hard jam.
|
| |
lol, allmusic.com gave it a 3/5, they honestly have no clue what they're talking about with that score

|
| |
Allmusic usually doesn't have any clue.
|
| |
Based on the samples alone this is a 4. And almost all tracks are at least 5 minutes long so I expect this to turn into a 4.5 pretty easily.
|
| |
in an ideal world, Voices would be a huge single
|
| |
Website gives a positive review for an album we haven't heard yet HOW DARE THEY
|
| |
Allmusic are horseshit.
I rank Black Gives Way to Blue as Alice in Chains best record, because I hold the hilariously unacceptable opinion that Jerry Cantrell's presence in AiC makes the band, and Layne Staley is (moreso than Vedder, even) the most easily parodied 90s rock icon. He just does some silly things. I don't really miss his voice.
Ouch. Anyway. I like AiC as a glorified Cantrell solo project. That's all I'm saying.
|
| |
Damn.
|
| |
allmusic are more or less on point most of the time, although their ratings don't always match the content of the reviews
As far as I can tell from briefly hearing the snippets (which isn't much really), this has a lot of potential to be the worst record in their discography (which again doesn't really say much). The songs don't seem as dark and there is little variation in tempos, the drumming seems samey to me as well.
Don't want to be too negative, I haven't heard the whole songs and I'm sure they will grow on me and AiC don't really know how to make a bad album, but I don't want people to hype this too much. And this is coming from a guy who 5'd their last album.
|
| |
If allmusic dislikes the album, fair enough. That review is rather poor though. There is not enough
content to properly express the reviewer's criticisms.
|
| |
The review looked really positive, but rating was only a 3/5? What the heck?
|
| |
The mood does seem more uplifting, especially Voices, but it still sounds like an awesome track.
|
| |
They usually stick with a few points to give you an idea what to expect from an album. I guess they're consumer reviews so to speak and pretty good for such short lenght, but they suck if you want to have your album fully dissected and don't give you an idea of the reviewer's personality. And at times they can come out as a bit ambigous.
I mean the review doesn't give me an idea how precisely this sounds like, but I know more or less what to expect.
Just my opinon anyway, depends what kind of reviews you wanna read. I like longer reviews that are posted on here, but I rarely read the whole thing ya know.
|
| |
@trueke
I understand if that is their target demographic, but I hope that demographic dies off. Reviews this short for something as subjective as music, is quite frankly shallow and embarrassing. This format is fit more for toaster reviews or some other set function product we've seen a thousand times.
I also don't read reviews entirely; The beauty is that I can. Instead, I absorb enough until I feel satisfied or informed. There simply isn't enough content here to justify that feeling of fulfilment. The fact that the score is still arbitrary and convoluted in context, proves that this review needs to be longer(or at least covey reasoning more efficiently).
|
| |
Link doesn't work, dammit
|
| |
Allmusic gives good ratings to really shitty bands.
|
| |
@NonApplicable
I wouldn't call it embarrassing necessarily, but otherwise well said, it's not the way to go if you want to get more involved, that's what I'm here for anyway
|
| |
Fair enough! I was a little heated when I wrote that x)
|
| |
I don't have iTunes and can't have it on this work computer.
1. any way to listen without iTunes?
2. is the dynamic range greater than, say, 2 dBs?
|
| |
I'm thinking a 4 for this one. Sounds like it will contend with Black Gives Way easily.
|
| |
The samples are only 30 seconds, not 90 so it's not too revealing. Listened up until Voices but this sounds like it's gonna be fantastic. Been jamming Stone and Hollow like crazy lately, really looking forward to this.
|
| |
It sounds moody and dark but not heavy at all which is a little disappointing. I enjoyed songs like Last Of My Kind and Looking In View from BGWTB and was expecting more in that vein...
Other than that, seems pretty awesome.
|
| |

They have no business I say, no business!!!
