Thrice to go on hiatus

2011-11-21 by Athom EMERITUS | 127 Comments
After over a decade of making music together, Thrice will be going on hiatus after their upcoming spring tour. The hiatus is due to the band's commitments to their growing families and no longer being able to juggle them with the touring lifestyle. Vocalist/Guitarist Dustin Kensrue explains their reasoning in full in a letter to fans at http://www.thrice.net/post/13115093663/an-announcement-from-dustin.

p.s. saying thrice is a christian band is also like saying Red and Deas Vail are christian bands, just because they have some songs that have super vague lyrics that can be construed that way or have been on a christian label before. Except with Thrice the argument is even less convincing.

I guess between being a father and being the lead singer of a well-respected band was causing Dustin too much of an IDENTITY CRISIS.

Also, hiatus =/= disband. I mean hell, disband =/= disband anymore--look at how many bands have come back in the past year: Hot Water Music, Jane's Addiction, Blink-182, Red Hot Chili Peppers, and more. Not to say that this won't LEAD to a break-up, but it doesn't mean anything right now.

That being said, I've never seen them live, so I damn sure will try my hardest to do so in Spring.

I'm really, really glad I caught them at the Electric Factory in Philly this fall in light of this news. They put on one hell of an amazing show. I also saw them open for Dashboard Confessional when I was in high school, just after The Artist In The Ambulance was released. What a tremendously talented band. I'm pulling for them to come back together when they're ready. If you think about it, most bands are, for all intents and purposes, "on hiatus" in between albums and tours anyway. Be well, fellows, and return to us stronger than ever. Long live Thrice.

did someone say Red wasn't a Christian band? lulz yes they are
and thrice quotes way too much CS Lewis and Scripture to not be a Christian band, or at least a band with a Christian lyricist/singer (he's also a worship leader at a local church).

moral of the story is, this is incredibly depressing, and I kind of thought Major/Minor felt like a "last album", but hey, they've been awesome.

If your definition of a Christian band is a band that has members who are Christian, Thrice is a Christian band. If your definition of a Christian band is a band that has many songs relating to Christianity, Thrice is a Christian band. If your definition of a Christian band is a band that sings exclusively about Jesus, Thrice is not a Christian band.
