fuck yeah
|
| |
This is the best Bon Iver song I have ever listened to....
|
| |
It's alright. The new album should be good.
|
| |
On my seventh listen...amazing
|
| |
If this song is any indication of the entire album....
|
| |
Great track. Album should be Bon Iver realizing their full potential.
|
| |
Just what the doctor prescribed.
|
| |
3/5
|
| |
wet myself
|
| |
Love it, can't wait for the whole album to be released.
|
| |
sorry Simple Math, you've got some serious, serious, SERIOUS competition coming
|
| |
Not sure what I think of this
|
| |
Soooo good.
|
| |
I had to open Sputnik in another tab because I couldn't stop the song, but had to comment.
Fucking amazing, can't wait for this now.
|
| |
sounds good, sounds good!
|
| |
this is fantastic
|
| |
yeah, this is lovely.
|
| |
today is a good day
|
| |
so good
|
| |
Where's Stokes? I know he's gonna jizz all over this.
|
| |
Pretty song. Not amazing, though.
|
| |
really really good but gonna try to limit my listens until the full thing
|
| |
Is amazing.
|
| |
Love it.
|
| |
Dope.
|
| |
So good
|
| |
90 percent of the albums I was looking forward to this year have been disappointing.
Simple Math broke that and this, I think, is going to even blow that out of the water.
|
| |
whoah theres like no acoustic guitar really
still great though
|
| |
i thought this was incredible
|
| |
liked it, didn't love it.
^ that will almost undoubtedly change for the better.
|
| |
This is beautiful.
2011 is the best year for music in a long time.
|
| |
the site wont load for me. ah well will listen in the morning
|
| |
peter gabriel
|
| |
As a resident of Calgary, I'm glad we finally have SOMETHING awesome named after us.
|
| |
oh my god
|
| |
"I am here Taxi, only listened once but it was definitely good. I'll jizz over it when I have more time to listen."
I see you got blueball.
|
| |
Eko hit the nail on the head. It's a nice song but NO ACOUSTIC GUITAR
I hope some of the other tracks are more stripped down and less produced.
|
| |
All aboard the hype train. Choo Choo
|
| |
It was good, not amazing.
|
| |
Listened 3 times in a row and while it's a pretty amazing track I'd like to hear it in a full albm context.
|
| |
I didn't think it was possible, but if this track is any indication, For Emma may just be beaten... Unbelievable song.
|
| |
Yeah, I was gonna say but don't really know how to say it..
I'm sort of getting sick of this electronic-ish sound..(This, Burst Apart, King of Limbs)
I want to hear some acoustic guitars.
|
| |
Hmm I'm not too sure about this. I've only listened once though, hopefully it'll grow on me and the album will be beautiful
|
| |
love this. i hope he burns his acoustic guitar and goes all bleep bloop.
|
| |
omg, yes, just made my day.
|
| |
goddamnit i need to be at that toronto show
|
| |
not digging this song at all. Don't like the style of direction he's headed.
|
| |
Definitely not what I expected to hear, but I like the song. An interesting and enjoyable new direction.
|
| |
ًWTH ! Where's the acoustic ??? I'm still sore over that King Of Limbs shit so the rest of this album better not be like this or i'll be really really pissed off.
|
| |
hey dude, that little circle with the squigly line you got going up there, i tried in vain to wipe it off my laptop thinking it was a hair or someshit
|
| |
"This is the best Bon Iver song I have ever listened to...."
no it isn't
|
| |
that was pretty chill
i wasn't the hugest fan of Emma but that sounded pretty good
|
| |
Lol. They just played Flume on House.
|
| |
'WTH ! Where's the acoustic ??? I'm still sore over that King Of Limbs shit so the rest of this album better not be like this or i'll be really really pissed off.'
I hate it when musical artists progress too man
|
| |
sounds pretty solid
|
| |
Awesome stuff.
He looks a hell of a lot like Rody Walker in that picture.
|
| |
fuckin superb. cant wait.
|
| |
Bon Iver goes all Kid A/Wind's Poem on everyone's ass. Awwwwww shit. Justin is sounding mighty trippy and confident. Let's hope this record leaks, like, tomorrow.
|
| |
Beginning reminds me a little of the Twin Peaks theme; that's where I got the whole Wind's Poem feel.
|
| |
this is good, but doesn't really do what i liked about for emma
|
| |
inb4 Bon Iver pulls a Sufjan
this is gorgeous
|
| |
This definitely reminded me of twin peaks as well.
|
| |
mmmm soothing
|
| |
om nom nom
|
| |
site won't load
|
| |
and he's not even going to tour through Calgary...?
|
| |
Okay this is pretty damn amazing. The electronic elements are actually pretty cool. And his voice is as gorgeous as ever.
|
| |
This is fucking awesome.
|
| |
Beautiful. I dug that.
|
| |
Omg so good. Not gonna listen to any more until the album comes out.
|
| |
And thats how my pants got sticky.
|
| |
2 pairs thus far, but im not changing them after every listen.
|
| |
WHY WON'T THE SITE FUCKING LOAD
|
| |
fine youtubing this shit christ
|
| |
This is perfect.
|
| |
"inb4 Bon Iver pulls a Sufjan "
hahahaha good call
|
| |
song was alright
|
| |
it's no Tyler, The Creator
|
| |
well that was obvious dude, it's in the title of the article: "Bon Iver post new song"
i mean it's no Motorhead, Rolling Stones, Mogwai, Pocohontas, The Wombats, Queen, Rosetta, Brokencyde, Eminem or Battles either but no one's pointing that out
except for me
cuz i had my tray table up
|
| |
haha it was cause you called me out for giving a 2 to Goblin because I gave a 5 to an Aesop Rock album.
but seriously now, come on this song rules
|
| |
and my seat back in the full upright posishunnnnn
yeah its pretty good i guess since im listening to the tallest man on earth whos pretty much better that he doesn't sound as good
|
| |
tmoe rules pretty hard. but this song is soooo good and the 51 second clip Justin Vernon posted a
while ago was like x10 better. I am incredibly stoked for this album (as you can see from muh avatar)
|
| |
album cover is bootiful
|
| |
Awesome song
|
| |
song is alright. move along.
|
| |
no no no it is the greatest thing ever released and will forever be the greatest thing ever released until another artist that sputnik really likes a lot releases an album
fuck, this is like the best thing since that protest the hero album
|
| |
Need to get the LP. Now.
|
| |
too many listeners killed the site :/
|
| |
"I hate it when musical artists progress too man"
Yeah well, i wouldnt consider changing styles as "progress" in most cases, an artist can progess without changing their sound, also, the stripped down acoustic based sound was an integral part of vernon's past releases so i wasnt expecting this, thats all so dont get smart with me.
Also, even if i fuckin hated this, its my opinion ya c ...
|
| |
yup that was great
|
| |
Simple Math sucks though.
Just saying.
|
| |
Track was good, not great
|
| |
like this new direction, song is good.
|
| |
yeah song was pretty good. hoping it'll grow on me. was a bit weird vocally in some parts.
|
| |
Definitely a grower, first two listens I thought it was good and nothing more but I keep coming back to it and finding more depth and unf. stoked for the album.
|
| |
song is good
|
| |
zzzzzzz
|
| |
I really like this new song. Often I don't like when an artist abandons a stylistic factor of their music (in this case the acoustics) but thanks to the atmosphere and vocals; there is still enough here for me to enjoy. =)
Much more so than Blood Bank anyway.
|
| |
Just so everyone knows, it's pronounced "Bone Eve-Air." Don't want anyone making a complete and total ass out of themselves by having the gall to pronounce it exactly the goddamn way it's spelled. Oh, and this song is amazing, but I have a sneaking suspicion that Justin's being intenitonally coy and misleading with this single...
Not in a Strokes' "Under Cover of Darkness" long-con manner, but in a sort of hype-negating, expectation-diverting manner. Anyone else feel that way?
|
| |
How do you mean Patrick? You think he's trying to keep the hype low by releasing a a tame song?
|
| |
Great song
|
| |
lol even justin pronounces it the way it's spelt.
|
| |
It's pronounced like "Bon hiver" (french for 'good winter'). And Justin Vernon pronounces it properly, I don't know what you're on about.
|
| |
I always pronounced it Bon hiver too. =P
|
| |
Honestly? Expected more, I'm disappointed. 3/5 because I'm sure it's genius and I'm too dumb to understand this masterpiece.
|
| |
so stoked to see him in T.O.
|
| |
Steoandnoodles,
Not necessarily a tame song, but perhaps a misleading one. I have a feeling it is not indicative of what the rest of the record will sound like, but rather a small sliver meant to appease curiosity and stave off driving expectations up even higher than they already are. However, I do think the rest of the album is going to be more lush, rich, and downright psychadelic than this single lets on.
Pitchfork ran this awhile back:
"According to Rolling Stone, experimental saxophonist Colin Stetson and pedal-steel guitarist Greg Leisz (Wilco, Joni Mitchell) were tapped to contribute to the record. Tracks include "Perth", which Vernon refers to as "a Civil War-sounding heavy metal song" and Rolling Stone reports that it features "a marching drum beat, a children's choir and wailing guitars," "Minnesota Wisconsin", and the closer "Beth/Rest", which Vernon claims is "definitely the part where you pick up your joint and re-light it."
Yesssssssss.
|
| |
Aids, I'm just poking fun at the people who correct me for pronouncing Bon Iver, "Bonn Eye-Verr" as opposed to the French pronunciation, "Bone Eve-Air." I've been scolded several times for making this "mistake." Just a matter of preference. Like the way the Dutch laugh at the fact that almost all Americans mispronounce Vincent van Gogh's last name. Same idea.
|
| |
how is gogh supposed to be pronounced?
|
| |
Wow, sounds mighty interesting. Thanks for the update Patrickfannon. =)
|
| |
just leaked in its entirety
|
| |
I saw that but can't seem to find a link goddammit
|
| |
Song is so good, looking forward to the album.
And I feel it would be against the law not to go to that Toronto show...
|
| |
yeah apparently it leaked. I can't find it without doing one of those stupid survey things that asks for your phone number.
|
| |
^^^
same here! I'm not doing that shit
|
| |
Good. That album is amazing but I want something new from them. Just hope it's as good
|
| |
just listened to for emma again and determined that it is impossible that it will be topped.
|
| |
"how is gogh supposed to be pronounced?"
http://www.metacafe.com/watch/321174/van_gogh_the_pronunciation/
It's a parody video, but the pronounciation from the Dutch guy is closse to how I'm led to believe it's pronounced.
|
| |
^^ Leak
|
| |
fuck yes.
|
| |
will wait until the album comes out.
|
| |
I can't download off filesonic anymore. I cancelled a download once and now it just tells me that there is an error as I can't download more than 1 file at a time. Sucks
|
| |
My god the opening to Perth is soo good.
I'm going to order one of the bundles simply because I want that sweet shirt.
|
| |
fuck yeah, got dat leak
new bon iver + new boris + LA Noire = best day ever
|
| |
last track is ridiculously bad
|
| |
no^
|
| |
nearing completion of first listen through and IMO**......not an aoty contender at all. it has none of the heart gripping immediacy of For Emma. Like has been said before, he pulled a Sufjan with all this electronic shit.
BUT seeing him at Lollapalooza on a rainy Friday afternoon in Grant Park 2 years ago was still amazing.
|
| |
Listening now and the album is fantastic, will undoubtedly grow on me more.
I think people need to stop comparing to this to For Emma.
Emma is a masterpiece, and this album adopts a new style.
But in it's own right, this album is absolutely great.
AOTY Major Contender.
|
| |
ya im about halfway through. its the shit.
|
| |
i pronounce it "bawn eyever" and idgaf
about to listen to the leak. i liked emma so i will probably like this
|
| |
what would i do without sputnik
...probably find out about things 5 hours later
|
| |
beth/rest is superfantastic.
|
| |
4.5'd after the first listen, but i could easily see myself bumping this to a 5 at some point... that would make this the third 2011 release that i've rated 5...
also, beth/rest is superfantastic. [2]
|
| |
This is a 3.5/4 for me right now..It cooould possibly get bumped to a 4.5 in a couple weeks/months but I doubt it.
|
| |
So yeah..what's up with the sex jam at the end?
|
| |
White stuff in mah hands.
|
| |
Just got it. I am about to fucking cum.
|
| |
Enotron, I was trying to think of how to explain the pronunciation of "van Gogh", but I could not put it into words. I Googled it, and this is the best answer I could find:
The pronunciation--it's difficult to put into words. The "Van" is a bit like "Fen" with the V sounding like a half V and half F. The "a" isn't quite like a short "e", but it's softer than North Americans pronounce it.
The Gogh--it's tricky. The first G sounds a bit like a guttural H, the "o" sound stays the same pretty much the same (but not as harsh sounding as the "o" in "go") and the final GH is sort of like a guttural CH, like in the name Johann Sebastian Bach.
|
| |
so fucking good
|
| |
I found two leaked tracks on Youtube and blogged about them if anyone's interested. http://iheardasongtoday.wordpress.com/2011/05/18/first-listen-new-leaked-tracks-holocene-and-wash-by-bon-iver/
|
| |
4 right now. 4.5 is a good possibility. i gave emma a 4.5 tho... i dunno if this is as good (yet), but it might be...
|
| |
bab I would delete that if I were you
|
| |
Production is really good. Didn't he do it himself?
Only gripe personally; is that the climax is slightly tainted by it. I don't think he good give the climax he wanted with the production. =/
Maybe that's just me.
|
| |
I really liked the album. Very lush and beautiful. I'm going to give it a couple more listens before giving it a rating.
|
| |
delete what?
|
| |
oh shit, it leaked yesterday and i havent rated it yet
|
| |
why the hell do people like this so much
|
| |
Because it's a good song.
|
| |
sounds like bland, adult contemporary music you would hear in a fabric store. or the dentist.
|
| |
??? It does?
Doesn't sound like that to me. =/
New Iron & Wine record did though.
|
| |
Mr.Glass, why do you like Animal Collective so much? To me, much of their output sounds like what would happen if you put a few hippies in a recording studio with a sheet of blotter acid and some mescaline. It's primarily noise. I dislike it, yet I can sort of see why it appeals to others. Sort of. I guess it's much to do with diversity of opinion and disposition as anything else. Art is a subjective medium, my friend. To each his own, as they say.
And Babs, I think Celestial Dust means the link you posted above. If it contains a link to an illegal download, they'll probably reprimand you somehow. I don't know the rules that well, but I got all of my ratings (over 1,000 of them) erased last year for rating Nickelback's entire catalogue a 1.0. So, I wouldn't put it past them.
|
| |
"perth" is better
|
| |
sounds like bland, adult contemporary music you would hear in a fabric store. or the dentist.
hahaha your dentist must be an emotional place to be
|
| |
Beth/rest sounds so much like an 80's ballad.
Amazing song, album is a solid 4 for me right now, haven't been able to give it many listens.
|
| |
or the dentist.
this makes me sad
|
| |
album is a solid 4, some tracks are borderline booring...
Minnesota, WI
Hinnom, Tx
Beth/Rest
AMAZING
|
| |
haha wow. I was listening to Beth/Rest on a different site, not this song. this isn't bad at all. I still don't like the intentionally mushy, ballad sound Beth/Rest is going for. but I can enjoy this. MY BAD GUYZ
and my dentist is a very, very emotional place
|
| |
I gots the lyrics:
http://jagjaguwar.com/blog/2011/05/bon-iver-bon-iver-the-lyrics/
|
| |
Could Perth be any more amazing!
|
| |
dude... beth/rest is a cover of a 90s adult contemporary ballad. look up "I can't make you love me" by bonnie raitt. lol that's why it "sounds like" that. really interesting arrangement though. loving everything on the album so far, got it at a 4.5, probably not gonna 5 it though, cuz it's not For Emma :/
|
| |
Beth/rest=80's ballad 4ever.
|
| |
Beth/Rest sounds like it's out a John Hughes movie
|
| |
