Mammal Break Up

2009-10-31 by DaveyBoy EMERITUS | 62 Comments
Australian band Mammal have broken up. In a statement released to fans the band claim that “Due to long standing personal, political, musical and business differences, Mammal has decided it cannot continue and is no more…”

3 of the band's members (Pete Williamson, Nick Adams and Zane Rosanoski) will continue on together in a new project, while frontman Ezekiel Ox will release the debut album from his The Ox And The Fury project in early 2010.

Billy, was this on the cards?

That is a lot of differences right there!

Gee, didn't see this one coming, though I was not as keen a follower as Billy.

Sounds like some issues between Ezekiel and the rest of the band, obviously.

Does anyone have any idea what Zeke's new project is going to sound like, apart from being folk/rock?

My take on the whole thing:

Was always going to happen, given Zeke's personality and what not, nevertheless i'm absolutely gutted. Given Nick, Pete and Zane are continuing on with whatever and knowing what Zeke's like, is that the three guys have just had enough of him or Zeke's pissed one to many people off and they've just told him to fuck off. Given they've cited political differences, again smells of Zeke getting too out there with all of his views, which were, in the last few months getting pretty extreme. You could see at gigs and the like everything getting a little tense etc. Such as him being quoted recently "Australia is the most racist country in the world" (Which i wont necessarily argue with) but other stuff he's been doing like hanging shit on the Australian flag at Sounds of Spring a few weeks ago. Last weekend at Swarm he spent two minutes actually yelling at the crowd about how the spring racing carnival is the devil that tells girls what to wear and no one tells girls what to wear in "HIS town". The last couple of months, while still a ridiculously fun band to see live, it just turned into a vessel for Zeke to rant about some really trivial things.

My gut feel is the other guys had just had enough of his shit and told him to fuck off.
Not surprising really given what happened with Full Scale, even though i kinda knew this was coming, i feel like I've been kicked in the nuts repeatedly for the last 3 hours. They were getting pretty damn big the the UK as well, it's such a fucking waste of talent. Also given they've cancelled all shows must mean it was something pretty big, even Full Scale played a farewell show when a few of the guys hated each other.

On the other projects:
Heres The Ox and the Fury's myspace: www.myspace.com/theoxandthefury
It's basically just chilled out Alt/Country Rock. Interesting to note that Lucius from Cog is the drummer.

And Zeke's other new project with Forrester called Smash Nova I can see being an outlet for all Zeke's hip hop/funk stuff given Forrester is primarily a producer. It's actually interesting that he's gone back to working with Forrester, he was in Full Scale with Zeke back when they first started. Kinda suggests that he's the only one who can actually put up with Zeke for a decent amount of time.

The three other guys i can see continuing on with bits of what Mammal had, mainly the classic rock and funk influences and less of the rap etc which was more Zeke's thing.

So what now, i'm absolutly shattered and i have a Biology exam tomorrow to study for. Fucking excellent weekend.

Congrats if you made it through all of that /rant

Damn mate, unlucky, best of luck with the exam though.
Hmm, that was actually where I was heading too, but it just won't be the same without them together.
David, i have heard Winter In Suburbia, I was just unsure with the whole "rock" thing that they slapped onto it, something makes me doubt its going to be like WIS.

"it's such a fucking waste of talent"

Couldn't of said it better myself. I don't even know the band and I'm sorta upset/annoyed. So many people loved these guys, and they were getting an extreme following. The few songs i've heard on JJJ have been awesome as well.

Ah well dude, look at it this way, from the remains of kyuss came Queens Of The Stone Age. There is always the chance that they could go on to make bigger and better things.

Although if say, The Living End called it quits, I would not be a happy chappy.

I was lucky enough to see them a few times. No, they broke up before the halloween gig, North. MM9 replaced them as headliners for that. Their last gig was SWARM festival at the Espy here in Melbourne a couple of weeks ago.

Just to make things more interesting:

Good Afternoon,

Well it's been a huge shock to everyone watching Mammal fizzle out into nothing. No one was more upset than me that the other members cancelled our final Aussie shows. It was a shitty way to end a great band, threats of lawsuits, no communication and our fans left wondering: why? Such a punk rock cliche from a band that was anything but.

But at times like these is is important to remember what has been there for you all along, and for me that has been the Fury.

Moving into it's 7th year, with one extremely rare (soon to be re-pressed) album under our belts, and another album "Guitars Die In Hot Cars" recorded and being released in April next year, The Ox and the Fury will now have a chance to take centre stage.

I invite all of you to come to the Northcote Social Club on Saturday the 28th of November, to see me alone on stage with my guitar and my songs. My good friends the Tim McMillan band will be there, and I will be playing from the heart and soul, I hope to see you all there.

Check out the film clip for "We'll Never Know" @:

All the best

Ezekiel

How shite, I never got to see them live. What adds to it is that half of my music was corrupted last
night, this just gets worse.

Edit: Actually, while I think about it, could somebody help me out here? Tracks 1 - 3 of Vol 1 Aural
