The Future For Cedric Bixler-Z

2009-06-11 by PuddleSwimmer | 38 Comments
Cedric Bixler-Zavala is as sporadic as he is Spanish. The frontman of The Mars Volta recently has installed a little more faith in die-hard At The Drive-In fans by hinting that he would like for the band to get back together.

Bixlar-Zavala opens up about the possibility of an ATDI reunion: "I don’t know what to say about that really, we’ve been making amends with a lot of the members and having some really good talks with them. And we’ve been trying to get our financial business in order because a lot of people have been ripping off that band really badly … as far as the business side goes. I wouldn’t mind it. You know, it might happen. We just have to iron out a lot of personal things. A lot of it we’ve dealt with already and I’ve apologized for a lot of things I’ve said and the way it ended. We’ll see what happens."

Although, Cedric shares very positive feelings about his current band: "Being around the people in the band [The Mars Volta] right now just excites me. Plus, to have as much time off as we’ve had from it … it’s a good break to remind you what you love doing. I love it and I’ll always love it. It’s the one outlet I have that won’t get me arrested or get me in trouble. I can get away with it. I don’t know if I could collaborate with many other people."

All in all, it seems like The Mars Volta isn't running out of juice anytime soon. But if it does, an At The Drive-In reunion is not out of the picture.

Why wouldn't they just have an ATD-I reunion while TMV is still going? They already play 2 1/2-3 hour sets.

Who do you think Cedric is? Jack White?!

Updated. The ATDI part is like the last question

"All along we've threatened people that we'd make a pop record, and now we have. It's always good to get rid of one audience to gain another. And I'm sure whatever audience comes from this album, we'll disappoint them with the next record." [On Octahedron]

lol

This is good news. But it's not like they're going to reunite now that TMV just released an album.

The Mars Volta have reached the end of their course, they need something fresh... but maybe this could be better than a new project? Revisiting ATDI... It would make my LIFE.

I FOR SURE don't want any new Sparta or else that will help put off the possibility for an ATDI reunion :P

I would much rather have them do a few reunion shows instead of a TMV abandonment to reunite ATD-I just to see if the chemistry is still there. Then who knows. I've thought for a while that a De-Loused and RoC's daughter would be hot.

The Mars Volta are almost as overrated as Radiohead on sputnik. If you want decent fusion, go back to where it was relevant and good: Return To Forever.

An ATD-I reunion would be really interesting. They definately wouldn't sound the same as they did in the RoC era.

Holy shit a new ATD-I album might be like an album of Non-Zero Possibility's. That'd be fucking excellent.

an at the drive-in reunion would be so awesome...with the way they were progressing, they could sound like a whole new band...or, and more likely, they'd sound exactly like the mars volta...RoC was the perfection of post-hardcore...no one has or probably ever will do it better...even on the bonus tracks, they sounded a lot more mars than atdi...no matter the moniker, whatever band they are in will sound like what cedric and omar want to do whether it's atdi/tmv/de facto/watever...
