You don't need to have a huge output to be a staff writer or contributer, just need to find a nice balance between output vs. quality. Even if you've only submitted a few reviews, if they're good enough quality then you'll merit consideration.

Well, the reviews I've submitted thus far are (I think anyway) of pretty good quality. Still, prob best to get some more experience before I apply.

I give myself a minimum of 6 listens before I review an album, although it is usually more.

I don't think the number of times you listen to an album before reviewing matters too much. Some times I can formulate pretty strong opinions after a couple of listens, with other albums I spend a lot of time trying to grasp the essence of it.

There is no right or wrong answer as to how long you should listen to an album for before submitting a review on it.

i think i write pretty solid reviews, but id love to be able to churn them out quicker. Itd be nice if there was a set forumla on how to write a good review haha

Yeah, generally I write reviews about 3 to 5 spins and a day or two after I listen to it. Some exceptions can be made because i've written a review or two based off of 1 or 2 listens. I don't care.

IDK people say that I write decent reviews, but I think that I should have a bit more experience before I apply.

I'm working on it - I've been here for about a year, this is a new account. I wanted a fresh and clean approach. I hope to contribute quite a bit to the site this year. I'm interviewing a band this weekend, reviewing a new album later this week, and I'm getting a list together of artists/albums to add. Maybe same time next year I'll be able to say "I'm your man."

I'll just have to crank out a few (quality) reviews between now and then. I have the new Doves and new Silversun Pickups release in the works... maybe that'll help my chances.

I should apply. If I got contributor status it'd spur me on to write more reviews.

Contributing reviewer shouldn't just be about writing reviews. It should be more versatile, like adding albums/bands to database, posting news posts, throw ina njournal or two, and essentially get people into shit.

I add bands, albums, news articles, journals....not so much, but only because I don't know how to.

I don't think anyone should be discouraged from applying. I haven't read any of Wizard's review, but I know there's a need for "metal" guys.
